Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Its absolutely a gauge, you said yourself they were interested din him, its not arbitory, they were an interested party, so its relevant, in terms of the market of the deal.

28 is very young, his contract expired in June 25 - so he had 3 and half years to run on his deal - we had all the aces and valued him the same as Chris Wood. Clearly about 17 mill on the deal, loosing one of our best players.

We save a wage, but have taken on two, we however take on higher ammostidation costs annually for P/S /FFP regulations so not great.

Ive no doubt if he hadn't been publicly ridiculed by the manager and we hadn't told the world we wanted rid and didn't look desperate to do it - we would have gotten 30-35 million, top full back in this league go for that, and he is one.

It was a poor deal and we are worse of for it.

Mate it's 100% arbitrary, was the player interested in Newcastle, nope, so what they are willing to pay is utterly irrelevant, basing a valuation on what everybody regards as a massive overpayment on woods again is wrong.

Its like when we paid for tosun or Iwobi every club then basing there valuations on those fees

Not sure why anybody thinks Digne was worth 35m for either, if we paid 35m for an out of form 28yo on 130k pw left back, we'd be slating the Business

Just quereying what is going on, he is not playing, I know under contract, just seems crazy if we are.
I had the same questions a while back, and as he's still considered innocent until proved otherwise then he gets paid. Everton just have to suck it up as they can't risk putting someone out on the field with what's alleged against him.

On the money mate. All the talk is Rondon who we can all see is not great but was never meant to be starting every game as Dcl and Richy were not meant to be injured for so long . But he was free ! Gray for 1.7m is now a 25 million pound player and Townsend is also worth money and was free. The 2 full backs both have huge potential and el ghazi could be a very shrewd signing . The goalies are just back ups and also ok . The problem is whoever Rafael signs will be deemed as no use. As it stands I’ve never rooted so much for a manager and really hope we start getting results and the signings he has made are a success and the club progresses . Need to stop the hate and support the team.
Excellent post

I would have taken 25m. IMO we were lucky as the player could easily of insisted on a move to Chelsea and we might have ended up with a lower fee or just a loan deal

It's good business IMO for the past year our utter lack of depth at the position is what made him indispensable to us rather than how good he's played.

People saying we should have held out for 30-35m are living in delusion, especially the last few years we've seen just how difficult it is to move on players for good fees across Europe.

I honestly disagree mate and im not trying to be contrary, i just think its a bad deal.

I think Wood is very relvent, i mean its the first full week in the market and we sold our prized asset in the first few days, Newcastle were interested. If he didn't want go there fine, show a bit of steel of steel with the player and buying club and say, this is what we can get from Newcastle if you want to go to Villa, you and your agent sort it out. One of many examples of how we could negotiate and use league, instead we blew our load and sold one of our best players for what is my opinion a below average fee. If your buying one of the best full back in the league which Digne is - you are paying more than 25 millon- of to be more specific a deal that could rise to 25 million.

There just isnt a point were anyone is going to convince me this is a good deal, every way i look at it its poor and i think the club have been poor with it. This club is broken. Imagine it was Moyes involved in this deal, he would have known the players worth and the players worth to Everton. Recuritment in and out of this club is so so poor and damaging.

You are right. Just checked the line-up for the away match at Crystal palace. It was 4 at the back and 3 in the middle, but beaten comfortably by 3-1. And the next match against Chelsea, just put 5 at the back and grind out a draw. That made him superstitious to this stuff.

The graphic shows what the formation should have been versus Palace but what actually happened was Gomes played as a second striker and we still got overrun in midfield as per. We're crying out for a competent Carsley or Barry holding midfielder type.
