Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Townsend has 6 goals and 3 assist in 19 games for us this season, gray has 6 goals and 2 assists across 20 apperences, begovic is a back up keeper and although he's crap he's a acceptable back up keeper, mykolenko and Patterson are both very highly rated young players who are full internationals and have hardly kicked a ball for us.

Rondon aside ill be honest, I think the recruitment has been fairly decent. I especially dont think its designed to lower expectations.

What lowered my expectations was when we had all the money in the world and the best we could do was over paying for crap like bolasie, Williams, walcott, tosun and iwobi.
On the money mate. All the talk is Rondon who we can all see is not great but was never meant to be starting every game as Dcl and Richy were not meant to be injured for so long . But he was free ! Gray for 1.7m is now a 25 million pound player and Townsend is also worth money and was free. The 2 full backs both have huge potential and el ghazi could be a very shrewd signing . The goalies are just back ups and also ok . The problem is whoever Rafael signs will be deemed as no use. As it stands I’ve never rooted so much for a manager and really hope we start getting results and the signings he has made are a success and the club progresses . Need to stop the hate and support the team.

Who does Mosh fancy signing?
Isnt it weird that an owner would get involved in signing absolute garbage players? I understood the reports of mosh wanting to sign all these luxury players. That makes sense an owner would want high profile players coming in. It’s fun even if it doesn’t make sense.

It’s weird that an owner would force himself into the transfer business to sign bad pointless profile players

We lose the midfield every week. It puts added pressure on our back line and we can’t link back to front. Realistically we need two starting caliber mids. CB can wait in comparison

It's true. But the question is, everyone on the pitch knows the defense is not reliable, even the CBs knew too. If two low confidence and mediocre CB get panic in a 4 man back line. You could potentially find yourself leaking 2-3 goals within 10 mins because when you will play more up the field with far more possession, will undoubtedly leaving far more space for opposite team's forwards to run for.

I guessed what changed the approach is the result of Villa away (0:3) and Watford home (2:5). Conceding 3 goals and 4 goals within like 10 mins or so. With the obsession of defensive as core, it's like slapping the manager's face. Why in a sudden a toothless Watford can find 5 times in the net? All those goals happened when you got more men in midfield but being counter attacked. And the CBs were like traffic cones and certainly won't help. And the full backs (Digne and Coleman) were slow and out of position to defend these by that time too.

He's so afraid of the defense (mainly CBs) being exposed, so to sacrifice the midfield and possession as the lately 541 reflected. That's a logical guess with someone like him, being in the football arena for more than 40 years or so. It's like a gambling to play 4231 or 433 at this moment in his mind, betting opposite team won't be able to exploit the defense. Then you can win with possession, fluidity and comfortably like start of the season (WITH Mina though). Set pieces? Not enough players with good heading clearance abilities, low confidence, out of position, so many could go wrong.

Certainly those losses of Villa and Watford taunted him. Unless he felt more confident of his own defense, he won't change the 541 formation. He's always rational and statistical, against gambling. All things combined, end up the situation like this. Otherwise, unless he's got Alzheimer, why he didn't play his most favoured formation in his life (4231/433) at a moment while everybody is screaming for.

We can always blame everything. Even arguing 25M Digne is 5M or 10M cheaper than he should have been sold, while took 30M Iwobi, 40M someone, 35M etc. bad blood that ruining the current team's chemistry and finances as some distant little concern.

Benitez is notoriously well-known for falling apart with stars. But this public headlines with Digne, more like a desperate financial solution for a under-performed LB and "execute one as a warning to all remaining". You either play for the club or you don't.

He was not scared to play 4 at the back even against Arsenal when Mina was back too. But he's so scared of Hull or Brighton to put 5 at the back..... maybe the trust sticks with Mina only? o_O

It doesn’t seem like it’s a case of players Moshiri wants it is players his friends want to give to us.

In my eyes he played back 5 against Brighton and Hull because it got him a point vs Chelsea and he’s that crap of a manager he saw it as some tactical master stroke.

You are right. Just checked the line-up for the away match at Crystal palace. It was 4 at the back and 3 in the middle, but beaten comfortably by 3-1. And the next match against Chelsea, just put 5 at the back and grind out a draw. That made him superstitious to this stuff.
