It’s very speculative mate. in fact you are using speculative “publicised” media to say no one was interested, when it takes one click click to see S Sports talking about multiple clubs both in the PL and abroad interested - thus there was market, we’re not into weeks either, we’re talking real done in days of the window, that’s the interest out hand was bitted off because the deal was so good, in the real world too, Gerrards comments yesterday back up all of the above - essentially saying the real was to good to be true, because it was. Woods is absolutely inductive of the market, they were also interested in Digne. So they whole thing is entirely relevant, even if it’s inconvenient for the point your trying to make. Villa got a brilliant deal at an undervalued price. All these things are real speculation in tribal football is not. No wonder Gerrards laughing at us.

We essentially blew our leverage in the handling of the deal, lost a high quality player in his prime, fir a lower price then his value, to sign essentially to prospects, taking in increased amortisation and speculating an additional 10-15 mill in two positions on the 17 mill cleared and may be poorer on and off the pitch for it. If he stayed it would have been far from financial apocalypse, I posted a couple of days ago on his annual cost, very manageable and in our given what we have taken on.

It was a poor and undervalued deal, in fact top to bottom we’ve been terrible. We’re worse or through it all in my opinion.

2nd para: The market value of the player was what we received at £25mil. Thats because it was obvious Benitez wanted to sell + he didnt want to join Newcastle who may have overpaid.

3rd para: Even if we go with £17mil as Digne's ffp profit, £5mil a season in amortization for the new 2 full backs is decent. £23mil approx in fees is decent.

4th para: Would you rather pay £25mil + £120k a week for a 28/29 year old international full back? Or £23/25mil and lower wages for 2 well regarded high potential international full backs?

4) Honestly, I don’t see the choice as that binary or that narrow - I’d do both - kept Digne and added depth and potential.

Is people thinking 28 is anything else but being in your prime a real thing - the world hasn’t gone that mad that quickly surely.

I'd take the experience in our position. Ultimately all the other "points" you made are close to "pointless".

Townsend has 6 goals and 3 assist in 19 games for us this season, gray has 6 goals and 2 assists across 20 apperences, begovic is a back up keeper and although he's crap he's a acceptable back up keeper, mykolenko and Patterson are both very highly rated young players who are full internationals and have hardly kicked a ball for us.

Rondon aside ill be honest, I think the recruitment has been fairly decent. I especially dont think its designed to lower expectations.

What lowered my expectations was when we had all the money in the world and the best we could do was over paying for crap like bolasie, Williams, walcott, tosun and iwobi.
