Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

It's good business IMO for the past year our utter lack of depth at the position is what made him indispensable to us rather than how good he's played.

People saying we should have held out for 30-35m are living in delusion, especially the last few years we've seen just how difficult it is to move on players for good fees across Europe.

I am not sure of many 28 year old full backs that have gone for more than £25m. I'm happy to be proven wrong on that, but I'm not aware of any.

The club has been criticised a fair bit for transfer dealings, but I think we did well with that. No not optimally but we did well.

We seem to have a big thing about selling players, but honestly loads of club in our boat do it all the time. Leverkusen will sell a left back to Frankfurt or whatever and move forward.

Mate it's 100% arbitrary, was the player interested in Newcastle, nope, so what they are willing to pay is utterly irrelevant, basing a valuation on what everybody regards as a massive overpayment on woods again is wrong.

Its like when we paid for tosun or Iwobi every club then basing there valuations on those fees

Not sure why anybody thinks Digne was worth 35m for either, if we paid 35m for an out of form 28yo on 130k pw left back, we'd be slating the Business
Digne's market value was definitely more than the £23m we've got

Nobody is allowed to leave.

Once you join the ‘family’ you’re in it forever.

We did well considering the circumstances and how it was handled yes. But we didn't get £25m. It's £22-23m up front and then there's certain add ons

I mean I understand it to be 23 down rising to about 28m. So I just went in the middle.

Most deals are structured like that now. Either way, I cant think of many 28 year old full backs going for more.

Townsend has 6 goals and 3 assist in 19 games for us this season, gray has 6 goals and 2 assists across 20 apperences, begovic is a back up keeper and although he's crap he's a acceptable back up keeper, mykolenko and Patterson are both very highly rated young players who are full internationals and have hardly kicked a ball for us.

Rondon aside ill be honest, I think the recruitment has been fairly decent. I especially dont think its designed to lower expectations.

What lowered my expectations was when we had all the money in the world and the best we could do was over paying for crap like bolasie, Williams, walcott, tosun and iwobi.
Good post, recruitment with Rondon and Lonergan would appear good, only time will tell, unfortunatelly for RB he just isnt capable of getting results.

Many will point to a steady decline BUT it has fallen off a cliff this season, even previous managers have got better results, and that the sign of a good manager isnt it. Carlo could set a side up for results with injuries whereas Benitez needs all the best players fit, that is why he has been crying so much about injuries, better managers find a way to adapt in the meantime, as we have seen.

Exactly. In quite a few instances, the players we are signing are better than we used to get for far more money.

Rondon is the exception, but he is in the same category as Tosun and at least he was free and is only on a two year deal.

We have even managed to start selling players again to reinvest in the squad.

Supposedly- can’t remember where I saw it- he’s set up with a midfield three in 11v11 in training this week.

If he goes with 5 at the back vs Norwichband a full squad I may open a vein

He's still employed by the Club.
Obviously I don't know what your employment is but if you're employer suspended you pending an investigation, would you not be paid while that investigation is carried out?

Did I say the club?, said not available for selection

Meaning the player? We don’t know so there are assumptions all round.

No idea either when his case is due up before the courts

You get full pay while suspended mate.

I imagine its there as a way of covering the businesses ass from being sued if someone was to be found innocent of whatever they were suspended for.
