I mean Van De Beek will be the 4th player we have brought in in this window, if we sign 1-2 more they have to be good deals and not an Iwobi style panic buy
Patterson has not even featured, Mykolenko looks very raw to put it mildly and Anwar El Ghazi is a winger and not what we wanted. Anwar El Ghazi's loan is probably going to stop us getting a decent central midfielder / central defender from the premiership.

That is 100% what’s going to happen. We’ll announce it late as well so it looks like we’ve been working on that deal all day.

Would be stupid like. They briefed the papers that they told all 3 candidates that deals were being worked on, and at least 2 were close - and then the DvB loan news quickly followed

Delighted at VDB - certainly preferable to Alli, RLC and probably Lingard - right age, has something to prove and, even without a buy option, he might be able to be persuaded to stay if it works out. Plus I don't think we've seen anything like the best of him in this country yet.

But, if Lampard does want to play a 433 then we are in desperate need of a number 6. Allan can't really do that, as we've seen. Gbamin wouldn't appear to be the answer either. Gueye is the only one we've been linked with, but even he is more of a ball-winner who likes to go and press around the pitch, rather than sitting and being positionally astute which is what you want from a player in that area. Still, better than the options we currently have.

The other glaring gap I think we have (well, the most pressing one) is left back. I know we've just signed one, but as things stand he's the only natural left back at the club and there's a chance that he may take a while to bed in yet - an injury to him would snooker us. Delph is injured and although Godfrey can play there, sort of, Lampard has relied on his full backs providing width and crosses at previous clubs and Godfrey won't do that. I'd say a left back on loan might not be the world's worst idea.

Yes we need someone who can get around the pitch like Doucoure does whether that's Gana or someone else that's key because we have nobody like that with Doucs out.

I agree, but I think Gana is different to Doucoure, previously Gana did the work of 2 men in the middle of the park, defensively speaking, if he’s still able to do that it could allow the other CM’s to get forward more.

I guess Benitez thought Godfrey and Myko was enough - be interesting to see if Frank thinks the same.

I should probably look at the stats, but with my own eyes the amount of times Gana turned play over for us was incredible at times.

Really think we're light on the wings. Not convinced about Townsend . Ok squad player. Grey too. Decent this year but not really sure about long term if he can keepup form. Would rather get two new starting players and put them on the bench. Gordon is ok but no end product.

I think it depends on the formation, if lampard plays 433 (451) then we have Richarlison, Gray, Townsend, El Ghazi, Iwobi and Gordon, with Dobbin from the youth team, which is 7 players for 2 positions.
If the manager plays 532, then we probably have 6 players who won’t play much as Richarlison will be played as a striker.

With it being deadline day, I don’t see us getting a winger, we have plenty of options there, CM is where we have players injured and missing
