Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Strengthen is the word though, if we haven’t we couldn’t in my opinion mate.

We need to break the cycle of bringing in tat - reacting to “desperate situations” then wanting rid of said months later via a loan to - to back of no where fc, while we count down their contracts.

January is a muck market, deep down we all know it.

I’m happy enough with the kid from Brazil, always liked the look of him at Southampton - he will surprise a few.
If that's happening then it's not down to buying in January and it being 'a risk', it's down to being ineffective in targeting players well in advance of it and getting value for money.

This business of "I'd rather we kept our powder dry for the summer" is for the birds.

There'll be no great value signings then because the game has changed vastly since Moyes was getting us Cahill and Arteta for 10 bob.
This was an opportunity lost, not a window where we dodged bullets.

Our terrible window has very little to do with psr. We had money to spend, we just choose not to because supposedly there is no value out there. At least I hope we had money to spend...perhaps TFG were just not keen on giving thelwell money to spend..who knows.
I thought so. And the PSR impact of 5 months amortisation of a massive contract for a striker is relatively bugger all. Easily covered this year with a minor sale. Future years covered by BMD revenues.

Moyes talked about restrictions when he first came in. But he has been consistent in saying “we need players.” Claims he reduced our expectations deliberately to save TFG money are trolling. TFG could lose the most (financially at least). Suddenly the miserable presser came out of nowhere, when PSR was suddenly causing “a bit of work” we needed to do.

Defo correct that someone has weighed up the cost v benefit of players that we could have got in and decided against it. And that is good.

But still reckon liquid cash is available, players are available if you overpay on transfer or wages. If you aren’t hamstrung by PSR, I think you definitely have a dabble just to protect your billion dollar investment. I think it’s more likely planning on how this years accounts will look, in order to give maximum headroom over the next 2 years accounting periods where a bonkers rebuild is needed; although the restrictions will change to wages vs revenue etc at some point. A huge uncertainty for all clubs as they still haven’t worked out transition rules.

Or we could just be totally incompetent and failed to identify or convince anyone to come to a perpetually firefighting club. Again.

And we have 1 player, also Broja is also back sooner rather than later. Why do we need to buy more crap. We are not getting relegated so wait for the influx in the summer.
Love all these we aren’t getting relegated shouts. We’re still very much in and around the relegation battle until mathematically it’s not possible. Get hit with anymore injuries and an already thin squad becomes even thinner. Talks of Broja coming back sooner than expected I fully expect to see him return then become injured again, can see DCL having a set back. It’s a sad state of affairs when we’re praying Beto doesn’t get injured

If we still had the Dychasaur I’d be worried. He’s gone and that’s better than any January signing.

Everton dumped the dud when it sacked dyche on the 9th of jan.
The day Everton beat relegation.
Best january transfer window in years.
Dyche walked mate...this club is incapable of making decisions and clearly was on full display this window. But you're right, the positive is that with moyes in charge, I think there might be a bit more accountability across the club hierarchy. Moyes is expecting the club to compete for the top players come the summer...hopefully they have realised now that for this to happen, changes are urgently required and hopefully moyes will help enforce those changes.

I think we had a plan mate the likes of Nuamah etc and Moyes came in and ripped it up. The rights and wrongs around that are debatable, I personally didn’t like the look of the lad. While un recent weeks, we’ve moved away from being a counter attacking team.

My read is the minute Moyes was appointed Thelwell was done for, now that’s the case, his position is untenable and we will have a DOF come July. Because of that do you allow an outgoing DOF spend a bagful in Jan, when 1. The manager doesn’t like the plan and 2. The DOF doesn’t really care anymore about the club, just his next gig. I think not.

I think you are wrong I think there will be value signings, I’m pretty certain of that, wasn’t a wet week before we linked with Dan Neill and there will be more if that type.

Do I want to be making signings, right now with limited funds and a manager in place a couple of weeks, a DOF on his way out and a PSR light budget, in a muck market or in the summer with 50 milll jump in revenue, a new DOF a manager in place 6 months and targets identified to how he wants to play - in the biggest longest transfer market of the year. It’s the summer really.

It’s a no brainer really.
