Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

We have 4 centre forwards on the books, each has to be paid. It’s likely the plan was one-out, one-in but the injuries ironically meant that selling or loaning one out became impractical and keeping Beto a must. Chelsea had no reason to take Broja back, we might have loaned out Chermitti or sold DLC but neither were possible.

Right full back is another area we need solutions in but again we already have 3 players there and 2 of those are out of contract in the summer, unless we could move someone we were going to have to wait.

We have 2 loans in the wide areas so we’re going to have to let that play out before making replacements.

Mangala got replaced.

Left back is the area we should have covered in this window.

Ashley Young/U23 left back?

Overall a meh window, if the young Argie lad comes in and looks great though then it's another one to the list of good young players we've added.

Looking at the players who moved clubs this January can honestly say there's zero I'm looking at and wishing we'd hit them on the desks they moved on. Ferguson i'd have liked but not in essentially a development loan completely in Brighton's interest.

Besides him nada. Should we hd e do entire, hard to say - as I said above nobody moved I'm gutted we missed out on - kinda points to lack of availability maybe? If they were available at decent prices simply put they'd have moved to other clubs obviously.

Summer is the litmus test now, we avoided any stupid choices transfer wise that would hamper or restrict us during the summer. We need a serious number of players coming in during June-August with the right quality and age. That's gonna cost an absolute shed load of money. Will we have the financial backing - will operating in a wide open market be able to get the correct desks over the line ahead of competitors - all big unknowns.

If best case scenario both Lindstrom and Alcaraz options are taken up as they do well the remainder of the season, we re-sign Gueye and all other loans and out of contracts leave the club, we are looking at having to bring in around 10-12 required to come in (including loans) on top of the two converted loans already here.

So baseline - that's roughly 32m on Lindstrom and Alcaraz. Say we utilize 3-4 loan spots to try before we buy and go help mitigate the money we spend in one go.

That leaves 6-9 more permanent deals we'd need to get done. All assuming we don't sell or have anyone come down with a long term bad injury.

That's a hell of a lot of work to get through in a few months like. The club in my lifetime has never ever managed even close to that level of recruitment before and I have major doubts if we have even the reunited capability if doing so now. Finding 10-12 players good enough to push the squad on whilst trying to keep wages under control.

Not sure just if the Friedkins will be willing to bankroll it either as you'd be looking at north of 150-200m to be able to do so at the level required (and that's without any thoughts of buying lads for silly money either)
We have a number of players going out of contract in the summer and we need to find a few from other clubs entering the last 6 months of their contracts and pick up a couple from that market

Think Moyes was part of the problem mate.
I just find it hard to believe he is happy with only the one signing. He mentioned several times he wanted multiple players

I'd back his judgement over the recruitment team to be honest. If the players presented to him were not what he wanted then I think the failing comes on the recruitment side.

Could be that the club are going to jettison Thelwell and this gives them the perfect excuse. I think Moyes will now have complete control over the summer signings. Huge savings on wages coming up and if we get decent sponsorship for the stadium then Moyes will have money to spend. I’m disappointed but also pleased we didn’t throw money at more dross.

KT job is broader than doing transfers mate.

Giving managers carte blanch is one of the reasons why we have had such a tough five years or so.
Or maybe it's because we've had 3 DoF who have been absolutely woeful at their job. I'd say buying 3 number 10s (Walsh), buying players with terrible injury records and sticking them on 100k a week (Brands with Mina, Gomes, Delph) and then another one who doesn't seem to know his arse from elbow and struggles to get loans done in an efficient manner (Thelwell) has played a massive part in us being in such a mess, along with poor managerial choices.

Every DoF job is broader than just transfers, but guess what, the first team squad is the most important thing and all 3 of them have made a complete balls up of it time after time, window after window, season after season.

Whenever the next window opens, TFG better have everything put in place to ensure this last window is the last time we look like a shower of incompetent tit's because it's simply unacceptable

Or maybe he’s smart and wasn’t willing to pay stupid money for the only available players that wouldn’t improved the team.

The problem is, you just cant buy a good striker for a few weeks in the Jan window, that is cheap and is better than Chermitti, Dom and Broja - to cover them short term and get shut in a month or so when the others are fit. Its a gamble, as a couple wont be training for 2 or 3 prem games.

But I reckon having an Ndiaye or Lindstrom up top for 2 or 3 games and saving money, would be better for us in the long run. Money is still limited, weve used enough sticking plasters on mediocrity of late, and more journeymen is not the answer.

If we were deep into relegation positions I would agree with you buddy, but, although a gamble, when faced with few choices, I think were probably better off saving our money for a top striker in the summer, rather than a desperate stop-gap now.
Absolutely hear you on all of that. Thankfully we've had an unexpected change of form and it's gone a long way to seeing us safe. Not done yet - a few injuries in the next 10 days could bring us right back into it, so let's hope we don't get unlucky. We can be as good as safe within four or five weeks.
