Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Dyche walked mate...this club is incapable of making decisions and clearly was on full display this window. But you're right, the positive is that with moyes in charge, I think there might be a bit more accountability across the club hierarchy. Moyes is expecting the club to compete for the top players come the summer...hopefully they have realised now that for this to happen, changes are urgently required and hopefully moyes will help enforce those changes.

What makes you think dyche walked when every report suggests he met the new board, told them he couldnt do any better and was removed from his post.
And this club as you say is under new ownership so it has nothing to do with previous decisions/transfer windows.
Im genuinelly baffled by the panic. Someones replied to who did you want with...a kid. Anyone. Anything with a pulse. Wasnt even bothered who we got in. Just wanted a photo of someone holding a shirt.
The squads thin but i'll stick with my comment. We'll be ok and sacking dyche is the best business Everton have done.

Far too much pressure on betos narrow shoulders now, nailed on injury incoming and what was looking like a comfortable spring could get messy again. Not enamoured with the Texans yet, certainly haven't issued us a statement of intent yet.

Some of our fan base are just as crazy as Moshiri. People fuming we didn’t p*** away money on bang average players just for the sake of bringing players inn. It was doing all that crap that’s got us in this mess. Like someone mentioned we already have 4 strikers on the books. We have been unlucky that 3 are injured but you can’t just go and buy more And more. Every team in the league has a drop of in quality if certain players get injured so there’s no point in saying what if such a player gets injured.

Or maybe it's because we've had 3 DoF who have been absolutely woeful at their job. I'd say buying 3 number 10s (Walsh), buying players with terrible injury records and sticking them on 100k a week (Brands with Mina, Gomes, Delph) and then another one who doesn't seem to know his arse from elbow and struggles to get loans done in an efficient manner (Thelwell) has played a massive part in us being in such a mess, along with poor managerial choices.

Every DoF job is broader than just transfers, but guess what, the first team squad is the most important thing and all 3 of them have made a complete balls up of it time after time, window after window, season after season.

Whenever the next window opens, TFG better have everything put in place to ensure this last window is the last time we look like a shower of incompetent tit's because it's simply unacceptable
Great points there. It's been a decade of absolutely horrific decision-making. Thelwell is, thankfully, nowhere near as bad as the other two clowns, but he's done a pretty poor job of offloading players (just like the others, in fairness). 30m Keane is the next one to walk out of the door for free, when he should have been fourth choice start of the season and being offered to everybody for a very moderate fee. Would have liked to have seen Doucoure punted at the start of the season and a younger version brought in, but again he's another big signing leaving for nowt.

I give him credit for being able to offload Maupay, though, as I was convinced nobody was going to go anywhere near him, what with him being one of the worst strikers we've ever had and all that.

Honestly just get rid of having a Director of Football and employ a scouting system that identifies players that fit the manager's criteria. Negotiations can then be handled by the relevant person at board level.

Or maybe he’s smart and wasn’t willing to pay stupid money for the only available players that wouldn’t improved the team.
I just don't agree with the idea that there are no affordable players or loans available who can improve the squad

The squad lacks depth and quality abd its very average. Finding improvements should not be a huge challenge.

Can you imagine us trying to get 7 signings over the line?

We'd have to have started negotiations during Covid to get them done by this summer
It's odd that we've said we think we've had a successful window.

I can only assume we've rejected some bids and started pre agreeing contracts with players for the summer.

*Whisper it*

Our last 3 summer transfer windows we've signed 7, 5, and 8.

My view on the window is that Moyes transformation of our fortunes rendered any panic buys unnecessary.

I worry if we get any additional injuries we will be in difficulties fielding a competitive team.

However we should be fine so far as relegation is concerned and that appears to be the extent of our ambition at present , although perhaps we are still very tight on PSR.

It will be interesting to see the level of investment in the summer but if we genuinely aspire to be top team again we have a huge amount to do in the transfer market come June .

I suspect that we are going to be disappointed and see contracts of players we'd hoped to see the back of being renewed, a full set of loanees, a couple of free transfers and modest amounts paid on new players.

Fortunately we have Moyes who whilst he takes his time has a track record of good recruitment.

It's going to be a very slow and perhaps difficult path back to being an elite club.

Hopefully the links to players like Fellows etc etc, is a sign of where we will be heading in the summer! Bringing in young future prospects!!
Fellows and Bellingham would be two good signings (not that we've been linked with the latter). Seeing as that Dan Neil is highly rated as well, get him in too. easily get the three for 50 million, modest salaries and three players with high ceilings that will only grow in value. Let's hope Sunderland don't get promoted.

"Ive got a great idea lads, Get rid of the Director of football and replace them with a.... Director of football!!"

Spending £50m on 3 championship players that would off offered nothing more than what we have now would have been a very stupid thing to do.
