Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

We should have got a pre-contract deal done for Tierney before Rodgers did this window.

This club are utterly clueless.
Tierney who’s played about 30 mins since signing for Arsenal. Along with Cherwell and some of the other “linked” players who have injury records, I’d like to see us swerve given what’s happened with a number of our squad recently.

Some of these players (and we’ve had/got) a few are the only people in the world who get paid to have a massage and frankly who we should be avoiding going into next season.

We didn't spend money on any crocked or injury-prone has-beens this time round - saved our money to buy some decent prospects in the summer.

We needed to get out of our desperate cycle some time and Moyes has taken first opportunity to do so.

Finish in the middle of the table this season, move to BMD next season and bring in a few young, quality players in key positions - sound like progress to me

100%

But.... it remains to be seen whether that happens so its all a guess at this stage. Nobody knows at this stage. I bloody hope we do.

The age of the squad massively reduces with the contract expiries we have this summer.

Coleman (36), Young (39), Doucoure (32), DCL (27), Keane (32), Gueye (35), Begovic (37), Harrison (28).

Discounting Gueye that's 7 players leaving with an average age of 33yo.

Currently we are at 27.8 after those 7 leave it comes down to 25.8 average age. Replace those 7 with an average age of 23 we drop down to 25.0.

Yes I mean a big issue for us is our older players are like really old. Partly because we just haven't had much money to spend.

If you look at the nucleus of a team moving forward, it's not that old really. OBrien 23, Brainthwaite 22, Patterson 23, Lindstrom/NDiaye 24, Garner 23, Tim 21, Armstrong (just) 17, Mykolenko 25, Beto 26, Chermiti 21.

You throw in Alcaraz 22, Dixon 20.

Like to me it's not a hugely old squad, it's a squad who's previous manager has resisted playing the younger players.

We have also had to sell most of our key players entering their peak years to comply with PL regulations (Richarlison, Gray, Iwobi, Gordon, Digne) while DCL has become crocked in that time.

DId his hamstring twice while on loan at Real Sociedad. Did his hamstring with Scotland at the Euros. The likelihood getting a run of games out of him is very low.

Ignore dave. I wouldnt let him run a bath.

Gueye, Lindstrom and Alcaraz will all be here next season, two spots needed to be filmed are backup keepers, that'll leave us at 18 including Armstrong.

7 spots to then fill including loans. Not exactly an impossible task.

Think people expect a forest line 14-16 players in, not realising they did that in large part replacing their entire promotion squad near enough.

We need to add 4-6 quality additions to have a very decent squad.

Look at the remaining players and the possible exception of Patterson and maybe Armstrong the rest are all first team or at worst good depth for a upper half team contesting for a lower EL spot imo.

Key is can we get those 4-6 players in through the door ofc.

The good thing is, pretty much everyone on that remaining list is 25 and under, and all look like "Moyes type" players who would improve under him.

I don't want to get too ahead of myself, but it probably took Moyes like 4-5 years to really build his first squad here, due to lack of funds and not having a window where he can do those replacements. Part of me thinks he may be able to do similar in 18 months if funding is available.

People go on about the league being this or that now, but I thinks it's a lot more open than 20 years ago, where you had a clear top 4, with a United under Ferguson and a Chelsea under Mourinho dominating it.

In the last few years we have seen Forest, Newcastle and Villa all go from a worse position to where we are now to the top 4 in a year. I'm not saying we are going to do that, but if we can get 5 or 6 good young players in and the group keeps improving there's a possibility for us to move forward.

I don't look at the likes of Tottenham and Brighton and think they're completely out of our reach.

Lindstrom has talent, but we need 3 players behind the forward who can score/assist.
