Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

We knew for months that we needed a lb and a pacy forward and a striker … today we had young at lb, awful Jesper and Beto….

We lost that game today because we had no cover and probs same Wednesday

Shame
Agree, but we arent building a squad for anything other than to stay up, atm.

The injuries are a massive pain, but with any luck people come back and offer us some options, its less than ideal and im not saying otherwise, but its a reality of our current situation.

The responsibility is with the previous leadership of the club. Their only objective in recent years was to avoid relegation.

That should never ever have been acceptable at Everton, even with low budgets. And once you set such low standards it becomes really difficult to improve and get out of the cycle of being down the bottom.

That's why the new ownership and the new management team are going to have such a difficult job. If we can stay up then we need to see action immediately this summer. There needs to be tough decisions made and there needs to be money spent.

Well yes Tim, but thats the Summer.

Im just talking about the here and now, I know Moyes has come in and given everybody a shot in the arm, but our goal the last few years has been solely to stay up.

That does indeed need to change starting now.

It's a balance and I'd always argue that if you can do something now to help, that's preferable to waiting.

My own personal opinion is that we should have done more last month to help with the huge amount of work we will need in the summer.

Ultimately we find out in the summer if the inactivity in January was the smart decision. If there is going to be some more short term pain then there needs to be more long term gain down the line.

From the story I read if we bought now, we would have to make a sale before June 30th.

Cant recall where I read it, but it makes sense to me.

As ive said tho, no excuses in the summer, we need a rebuild and we need the dough to do it.

Going to be hard to do all the work we need in one window. My concern is we've left ourselves with too much work.

And the target needs to be a big improvement on recent years. No one is asking for us to win trophies or qualify for Europe but I dont think aiming for about 10th and top half is an unreasonable objective. But even that requires lots of smart signings.

We have left ourselves a lot to do for sure, but too much work?

Nar, we need 12 or so new players, few loans, few frees, light work for a competent recruitment team, lets hope we have 1.

Agree. … upset at the awful first half performance and clear lack of depth in the squad but we need 10-12 more points and all is hopefully good again ..

Agreed. Was just frustrating people trying to say we didn’t need signings cos Moyes had us playing well. It was obviously going to cost us.

Think that may have been Mark Douglas in the i. He seems to be connected with TFG. It makes sense. If we’d have gone big in January then maybe Branthwaite is gone in June to satisfy PSR.

It’s going to be a hell of a job for the recruitment team in the summer.

That Marcus Edwards looks pretty good.
Perhaps we should have tried to sign him, rather than pretending to look like we were trying to sign him to make it seem as if we were at least trying to solve some our squad deficiencies.
On loan maybe but not full time still feel we can do better than edwards lindstrom and harrison. In the summer i would be after two right wingers

Tarkowski has been a good signing but is clearly on the decline. I can see someone like Burnley or Sheffield United coming in for him in the summer if they get promoted. It might be a good time to sell him on.

Yeah was thinking the same, he's also one of our remaining high earners - on over 100k pw I think
