Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Was he getting games there?
Doesn’t look like it, which I guess explains the recall.

Looks like he’s barely been in any matchday squads. Nothing since October, and even then it’s only at U19 level.

Presumably he was a makeweight in the Mangala deal?

Said in the youth team thread, not really sure why the deal happened in the first place unless it's something related to immigration, but whatever reason Lyon took him he likely was never going to get much of a look in as soon as Textor lost out on us- why would you waste time and a place in your u21 team developing a player for another team?

Don't mind Lindstrom but he needs to do a bit more in terms of goals and assists the second half of the season before we buy him. One thing is for sure we STILL need pace on the right, even as an option. Its crazy at this point we don't.

I guess he is not eligible for the first team? Very young still and we only signed him last summer.
It’s not anything to do with Lyon or Textor fancying their own lads more (and he could play for our first team right now). Mentioned it in the youth thread but he came on with 15 to go last night for the 21s and looked a bit like he’d won a competition.

Nowhere near at u21 level yet even.

I mean you’re slating the kid for his first 15 minutes ever on an English football pitch.

Doesn’t change the fact the deal with Lyon was entirely unusual and probably a Textor related favour- clubs do not loan players for their academy, what would be the point? So any reason for him to be there expired when TFG got the nod.

He may well be crap as you’ve already decided but the fact he wasn’t getting minutes for Lyon U21 isn’t necessarily an indicator, that’s my only point. Because again, from their perspective, what would be the point?

No in fairness I did state it was an incredibly difficult set of circumstances to come in to. First game in a new country against a very good side for the last 15 minutes trying to hold a lead.

But anyone else who watched it would agree, he looked very raw (being kind).

I see your point but I was merely stating that having watched him I don’t think it was a case of fancying contracted players over him. Academy loans are actually quite popular in Europe, some sides like to have a look at a kid for a specific position or they need cover whilst one of theirs goes out for minutes (particularly prevalent in Spain).

I don’t think realistically any of us are going to know why he was in France, weird deal.

The money we spent on youngsters really did go further under Moshiri. It's just we bought so many established players for > £20 million who basically didn't improve us, left for nothing and on high wages.

Who ever mentioned this earlier. Wow!

(obviously Lukaku was bought before Moshiri arrived)
