Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Everton are aiming to sign young, British stars as part of a new recruitment focus, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that David Moyes is the driving force behind the new transfer plan after seeing success with it in the past.
Just bell Carsley and tell him to bus over the under 21 squad!

From the story I read if we bought now, we would have to make a sale before June 30th.

Cant recall where I read it, but it makes sense to me.

As ive said tho, no excuses in the summer, we need a rebuild and we need the dough to do it.

How is this possible, have we not been in credit for something like 5yrs now? Or is this the stadium cost?

And this isnt to argue with you, but to understand how it can be so tight still?

I’m not entirely sure myself but thought it was something to do with 3 year rolling accounting periods for PSR or something? Which we’re clear of in the summer.

Plus rules potentially being changed which may let the handbrake off a bit more.

If this is the only focus, frankly I believe it is a mistake. It had better be a mix of young foreign players and a couple young English players. Other wise you pay a premium on everyone. British talent costs more, less value for the outlay unless you buy someone for 3 years down the road.

I’ve long said we should do this.

Look at the best deals we’ve had previously.

Coleman Baines Jagielka Lescott Stones Braithwaite Calvert Lewin, Pickford all bought for peanuts and sold/could be/could have been sold for huge sums.

Even our other good signings Gueye Richarlison Lukaku Cahill Ndiaye all were playing/or recently playing in English football.

Quite frankly it were scouting players abroad why would they come to Everton? If there’s an about from any other club in CL football we’ve immediately lost out. It’s difficult for work permit reasons, location reasons, squad integration reasons. It’s obviously not impossible but it’s just more difficult.

You look at some of the good players round the British and Irish squads since Moyes left though. Could we not have offered Maddison football before Leicester did, might Chilwell have ended up here, or Toney, or Vardy, what if we’d offered big money for Kane when he was sat on Millwall and Leicester’s bench before Pochettino gave him a shot. Might we have taken chances on Robertson Maguire Mcginn etc.

There’ll be too players coming out of club’s academies now who can’t get in first teams of top 6 squads. There’ll be top talent coming out of the championship or lower leagues. We should be there with the right number in the offer giving them first team football and getting them here before they end up going somewhere else and exploding in value.

I’d much rather we did this than spend our time scouting Brazil Portugal Spain Argentina etc. as what has that ever resulted in for the club? A few kids who came and left without making a difference.

Get the scouts covering every blade of grass across the UK and Ireland and make sure we get the next John Stones and Branthwaite. In an era when Real Madrid are buying up teenagers like Vinicius Rodrygo Endrick before they’ve barely broken into senior teams in Brazil it shows there’s almost zero point competing over there.

Errrm Pickford wasn't bought for peanuts mate we spent 30m on him which was a club record fee for us 😂

Ah ok.. thanks.

Heres hoping, assuming we escape again this year, we absolutely must see major investment on the playing front of some real quality across the whole 11 in my view.

Which ia quite staggering when you think about it

I dont know mate, I posted our loses last week.

The last 2 years have been "ok", but the 3rd year which goes off this summer the loss was pretty big.

We still have no idea on our latest accounts, so I honestly cant tell you what the figures are.

Whilst our spending has been meagre on players, our wage bill was disgusting, we lost major money over Ukraine.

In short, I cant answer your question, I just suspect things will be better in the Summer.

Sounds great!

Trying to pick up a few from Chelsea and city might work as some players will
Inevitably discover they are part of the wider strategy of the club than potential first teamers.

Trying to identify who the German clubs are trying to snipe also wouldn’t hurt!
