Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

If you set the level we need to be aiming at as the first stage of rebuilding being where Newcastle have reached then the level of sustained investment is huge.

Once the head choppers took over the horse punchers they invested 130m pretty much in January.
Following season 185m
One after that 148m

7 players visiting nite than 37m each (Tonali, Barnes, Livramento, Isak, Gordon, Botman, Guimaraes).

First January they kinda besides for Guimaraes threw most of that money on buying veteran players to keep them up and stabilise them, but the spending after has nearly entirely been focused on n players who are instant big upgrades on those players.

That's the best part of 400m quid spent focused on younger players still not at their peak over 2 seasons.

Shows the monumental task and amount of funding required for TFG to get the club even to the level of a Newcastle...

And they have still had to sell players.

The only question I have is does it take us selling Branthwaite in the summer to get the transfer budget we need to completely rebuild our squad? We need about £150-200m spent, and I can't see that having us abide by the PSR rules without a massive departure which is basically either him or Pickford as they're our only sellable assets for big money.

Everyone knows the availability and value isn’t in the January market, as a rule. You get the odd exception but most teams aren’t willing to sell valued assets until the summer.

Moyes has spoken about this himself.

Moyes said the same thing first time he was here. He's just a miser with other peoples money and a mitherer.

I’ve long said we should do this.

Look at the best deals we’ve had previously.

Coleman Baines Jagielka Lescott Stones Braithwaite Calvert Lewin, Pickford all bought for peanuts and sold/could be/could have been sold for huge sums.

Even our other good signings Gueye Richarlison Lukaku Cahill Ndiaye all were playing/or recently playing in English football.

Quite frankly it were scouting players abroad why would they come to Everton? If there’s an about from any other club in CL football we’ve immediately lost out. It’s difficult for work permit reasons, location reasons, squad integration reasons. It’s obviously not impossible but it’s just more difficult.

You look at some of the good players round the British and Irish squads since Moyes left though. Could we not have offered Maddison football before Leicester did, might Chilwell have ended up here, or Toney, or Vardy, what if we’d offered big money for Kane when he was sat on Millwall and Leicester’s bench before Pochettino gave him a shot. Might we have taken chances on Robertson Maguire Mcginn etc.

There’ll be too players coming out of club’s academies now who can’t get in first teams of top 6 squads. There’ll be top talent coming out of the championship or lower leagues. We should be there with the right number in the offer giving them first team football and getting them here before they end up going somewhere else and exploding in value.

I’d much rather we did this than spend our time scouting Brazil Portugal Spain Argentina etc. as what has that ever resulted in for the club? A few kids who came and left without making a difference.

Get the scouts covering every blade of grass across the UK and Ireland and make sure we get the next John Stones and Branthwaite. In an era when Real Madrid are buying up teenagers like Vinicius Rodrygo Endrick before they’ve barely broken into senior teams in Brazil it shows there’s almost zero point competing over there.
I don't mind this as a base, but ultimately we want to be looking for good players regardless of nationality.

Don't mind starting like this though, then sprinkling a little overseas magic into the squad when the right players are available

Everton are aiming to sign young, British stars as part of a new recruitment focus, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that David Moyes is the driving force behind the new transfer plan after seeing success with it in the past.

Wonder if Harwood-Bellis might be part of that idea? No idea if he's looked out of his depth in the prem as Southampton generally are terrible but given his age and he's also marrying Roy Keane's Daughter in the near future then you'd think he would be up for a move back to the NW.

Yeah I'm not sure about him, looks very shaky whenever I have watched him, think he is a Championship player myself. On the subject of the Championship Id like us to look again at Chakvetadze at Watford, there is a player in there no doubt about it imo.

I know there's been talk about Longstaff in last few weeks but Joe Willock is the type that is needed if there's any chance he'll be made available by Newcastle to raise funds.

Was very impressed by his performance yesterday but he's only a squad player for them now. Only 25 still and his contract has two years to run come the summer.

He had limited funds Dave, you know this, you complained about this.

You wouldn't criticise Moyes at any stage or whatever he did. I had a brief look through your posting history about Moyes.

You were an apostle, so your views on him - though consistent - have to be seen as those of someone who cant be critical of him on anything.

If he craps the bed like Dyche I want him gone.

Currently, im happy with the job is doing.

An apostle is kinda funny.

I prefer prophet.

You just underlined my point: you have zero capability to critically judge Moyes.
