Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Yeah don't think many realise that btw so expect a lot of moaning come June.

Only way around it buying before but the contracts run from July, but nobody will do that due to risk of an injury in the intervening period and you'd be contracted to still buy.

Our issue will also be, that people could potentially move in if we agree a deal. It's tricky. I doubt we announce anything.

We can’t, and we won’t. We don’t release the PSR shackles until the new financial year on July 1st. We’ll no doubt be working on deals before that, probably even now, but you won’t see any signing made until after July 1st.

Again, we couldn’t. Well we could, but that would have meant a sale of an important player prior to the end of June for PSR purposes. Had we not have won those three games on the spin and given us a comfortable cushion, I think you’d have seen us gamble more and deal with the unwanted sale at a later date before the June 31st cut off. Those wins have clearly seen us take the decision to not gamble on short term signings that probably wouldn’t have been of the quality wanted/needed, at the expense of having to lose someone we don’t particularly want to before July 1st. We’re still very close to a breach by all accounts and we have to understand that.

Just have to be patient a little while longer, from July it’s a completely different kettle of fish and we’ll have far more freedom to spend. For the first summer in years, it’s going to be an exciting summer watching the links which always helps get through the summer months without the footie. We normally window shop and watch with envy whilst the mighty Bournemouth and Brighton spend decent money but this year we can actually join in!
Not all recruitment needs to be expensive signings.

There are loans or cheaper deals out there. And we definitely should have looked to do something.

I dont think it's the time for patience. It's a time for urgency and action to get better. We've had far too many years of year on year decline.

I thought one of the arguments for not doing any January deals was that we could use that budget in June and get more value. Especially if other clubs were up against PSR.

Was mentioned by Paddy Boyland in a Blue Room podcast last week.
With the greatest respect to Paddy Boyland, Moyes mentioned several times in the last few weeks that although he’d like recruits, we were still heavily hamstrung by PSR. That will still be the case up until July 1st when the new financial year resets. So we know there’s currently very little money to spend so it would make no sense whatsoever, to buy a player for 10 million or so, (unless of course it’s a player you really want regardless), when you could buy a far better player for the same position for more money when it becomes available a few weeks later in July.

I suppose the point is if you can buy them for £10m in June but the team wanted £20m in Jan. I tend to agree that we'll do more business later but I don't think an early deal or two is out of the question.

Also the fact most clubs will have ensured they are within PSR limits xibe June already after this years panic from some, if you are within PSR it makes zero sense to sell prior to July as you'd want that sale on the books for the next financial year

We have no choice but to be patient! Why isn’t that sinking in? If “loans and cheaper deals” were that easy then we (along with every other club) would have made them. We needed a striker, so did several others. What club with a striker with the quality we need, would simply let us have them on loan? Moyes has admitted today that we’ve only now got Alcaraz because the boy was simply “available”. I’ve seen so many fans on here and on social media say “[Poor language removed] PSR spend it anyway, but they’ll be the first ones to moan when we get hit with another points deduction and say we’re continuing to be poorly run!!

The fact is, there was little money to spend in an already difficult January market. What you DON’T want to be doing, is filling the squad with more wages thieves that you don’t particularly want and then can’t shift afterwards. We need an injection of quality players that we just couldn’t get in January due to two reasons, not having the money, and those players not being available. I don’t know what’s so difficult to understand here. Arsenal badly need a striker and they couldn’t come up with one either despite having far more resources than us this month.

The strategy is spot on. We’re not getting relegated so the focus is on getting the players in that we actually want, in the summer rather then getting a few in now for the sake of it.

I still don’t get this amortisation. I
thought 1st July would be a cut off but
Borson told me that if you signed say 14th June you could allocate half a months amortisation. We had some wiggle room in January and therefore is it not in our best interest (if safe to do so) to spend to the limit this year.

You can buy the player 14th June and only account for two weeks worth of the cost in that financial period upto end of June.

So in effect buy yourself wiggle room.

So then, not including loanees who may or may not be signed permanently (Lindstrøm/Alcaraz) this is our squad after the last game of the season. Genuinely so excited by this the potential of the upcoming window, just hope there’s plenty of deals lined up and ready to go…

Prefer this RW to our current options

I’m actually more scared than excited. Having watched our transfer windows over the last 30 years, as a club we have managed to make a pigs ear of it so many times. For the past 5 seasons we have needed a RW, we have failed to sign one. When we sold Gana we needed replacement and ended up signing him back, as his own replacement! We have needed a replacement for Coleman for about 7 years, still no closer to that. I have little confidence we will be able to get 10 to 12 players in one single window.

I get all the financial constraints but not getting relegated really is the lowest of low bars. Whilst I agree our PSR position clearly inhibited spending and had done for years. Recruitment is also about talent ID, securing targets and equipping a squad with attributes it needs, one of those is PACE, our DOF has not proven he can do this yet.
