Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Only at Everton would you get such an aversion to improvement whilst relegation stares you in the face.

I really hope that TFG realise that we will need to act like a prem club at some point, especially when it comes to buying forwards. Most clubs in the PL, including Everton, have a record signing of over 40 million.

Wolves had to pay over 40m for Cunha. Everton had to pay over 40m for both Richarlison and Sigurdsson. Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle have all recently spent in excess of 50 million on a single player.

If we carry on acting like a small club, then we are no doubt doomed to become one. It doesn’t make sense with the new stadium either. It’s about time we started acting like a top half Premier League club once again. We will continue to go nowhere, if we do not!

Too short term / reactive thinking that.

Say we do go and spend £40 mill on a strker...for what ?? For Pickford and Centre backs to hoof the ball at him, while he is double marked all game.

Then us all to moan about another failed signing.

The issue is so much bigger, and chucking any money we have at it, wont fix it.

I think your opinion was correct when we signed Tosun/Walcott under Allardyce. We shouldn't have done that.

Now though, what you're saying is take a chance on surviving relegation.

We don't have that luxury.

Personally, I think we're bang in trouble and I can't see why results would improve on the previous 3 seasons and if they don't, we again go to to the last few games of the season.

It's a lot easier to attract a manager, and rebuild as a Premier League team than a Championship one.

We haven't been able to though, primarily because the money we did spend 6/7 years ago was completely wasted due to a lack of vision and or strategy.

I remain optimistic and hopeful that come the summer, we'll have the funds, the ability to spend them, a coherent plan and someone to deliver it.

Buy cheap, buy twice. It's a relatable mantra. Would be great to get out of that rut.

Do signings really make that much differnece ?? Considering how poor most of them have done the last 2 windows.

We don't need to improve last 3 season to survive, we stay up with 36 points....I know, its hardly ambitious but we just need to stay in the league as you just said too.

I would like us to add to the squad YES.....but not throwing big money on a striker, we have e nough strikers, the issue is creativity FOR the strikers.

The strategy can only be to do what we can within our very limited means in January, and to try and limp into 2025/26 still in the Premier League.

Absolutely horrible to write this, or to consider it as it shows zero ambition. But pragmatically, getting to June with a season of PL football at the new stadium, with a new squad, with a new manager is the only way we can fix the mess the club is in.

Look at Newcastle when Howe took over.

Wood, Burn, Trippier, Bruno came in - turned that relegation fodder side into one that nearly qualified for Europe.

We don't have the resource or capacity to spend that money in January, but it certainly made a huge difference for them.

Right, so what resolution will Everton be seeking if the tactic of paying good money to obtain a good player is off the table, which is the age old tactic employed by Premier League football clubs?

Will we be going for the pay small money to attract good forwards tactic instead? A tactic that isn’t even adopted by the likes of Bournemouth and Brighton any more, who have both dropped in excess of 40 million on players in the last year.

The penny pinching has brought us to the brink of relegation! It’s been going on for way too long, and it’s going to bite us if we don’t stop acting like the smallest club in the league!
