Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Pessimistic comes with being a blue surely.

I don't think they will have enough time to impliment what they really want in place for Jan window, thats a summer job really.

Im not 100% on them as football people yet, so no clue if they can rock up and solve our issues within 1 month. Enough issues at Roma to suggest they may get things wrong now and again.

We may need to be patient and allow them time first, so not sure they will risk comeing in and risking any summer transfer funds now.

Time wise - they were trying to buy the club last June, and been involved (big stakeholder with loan from that summer) since.

I dont think they'd be coming in blind, they'll know they'll need to protect the investment.

I'll be astonished if this window closes without us spending. If we'd signed Minteh, Gnonto, Kudus - those type of players Thelwell wanted, I think it would be worth a few points. Hopefully we can now, because if we can't it's going to go to the wire.

We're defending well since Branthwaite's come back, but we have no pace on the counter, or any player who can bridge/progress the ball. Signing them makes a world of difference to us.

All too optimistic for me at the moment mate.

You must have used it all up.

You trump 95% of Evertonians for optimistim thinking same again 2nd half of the season and we'll be sound... ;)

I don't panic and go OTT, like many blues do.

Draws and a solid defence keeps teams up, its been true since the start of time, and thats what will keep us up again.

Its crap, but its true.

I dont think thats too optimistic, just realistic.

If I’m TFG, my approach in this transfer window only:
- Look for potential trades with Roma on the cheap
- Cheap and obvious deals for upgrades within the PL and Championship for a FB and possibly a RW
- Ensure anyone you buy is someone Dyche will play since he is always reluctant to do so. That almost means you have to buy a defender. If you don’t buy what the gaffer wants, you wasted all that money.

And from there, they probably hold their nose and hope for the best. Get through the season in the PL, get the stadium naming deal done, line up the next manager and DoF, thank Dyche and get him a nice watch for his service, and get out of PSR. And then make decisive and strategic purchases in the next window that bolster all aspects on the pitch. Next year no more dealing with scraps or missed opportunities.

Also, lifelong Blues fan here from across the pond. Been following your message board forever. This is my first post. Love this place, love EFC, this club is on the brink of getting back to glory and where it belongs. And for my part, you’ve got a mate over here who makes sure everyone knows who Everton is and the days of people over here only hearing about the Big 6 are over. Just want you all to know you have a huge amount of EFC love over here.

And in the spirit of my username and Gladiator:

We are Everton, former leaders in the Premier League, generals on the pitch, the most loyal fans, no longer under mismanagement, headed in the right direction, and we will have our vengeance on the pitch and table in this life AND the next.

That they do;

... but in my view, we're looking too like Burnley the season they went down. They survived for a very long time on being hard to beat and turning a few draws into wins - but when they lost Wood, they sunk.

Core to your point is if we equal this season so far, we'll be fine.

My point is how slim them margins are, and how it doesn't really support the view we don't need to strengthen to remain a Premier League team

If we lose tomorrow as I expect we will, we've never won at Bournemouth, - well that argument of we just have to maintain this season has gone given status quo of this season, relegates us 7 of the last 10 seasons.
We've had Chermiti and Broja unavailable for a good chunk of the first half of the season, wether they make a difference is yet to be seen.

Good point really...we seem to have forgotten there could be some inter club trading but it's getting said players to agree to the moves and like you say make sure Dyche will actually utilise them.

No idea on Chermiti.

Broja feels a bit like Beto to me in that he needs to play of the shoulder/ball behind. We don't seem to have footballers who can pass a ball forward.

I really think TFG have done their homework. In their plans, Dyche is already gone but not until the end of the season. He’s so one-dimensional with defense. You have to buy smartly this one time and bolster where you can and mostly in defense. Doing this increases your chance of clean sheets and Dyche playing them. Buy to his strengths and tendencies this one time only. It’s too disruptive and risky to sack him. So as boring as it is, give him what he wants, a 9-1 formation to work with.

Not sure if Dyche would forgo a midfielder, but up top with DCL and getting on to his flick ons is more likely than receiving through balls from the current midfield.

Just not sure if the midfielders we have are good enough/have the legs to play in a two
