Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I disagree, it's down to tactics and players making space for those passes by running in behind and breaking lines rather than being in a rigid square block.

It's both, but Mykolenko is never going to play the balls Baines and Digne could.

Doucoure is never going to play balls that Sigurdsson and Rodriguez could.

Just ask Calvert-Lewin.

NDiaye is never going to be the player he could be while he has Mykolenko behind him - imagine Pienaar with Mykolenko behind him? Half the player.

Ultimately, there's not the pace, or craft in this team - there hasn't been for approaching 4 seasons now, which is why it's crucial we start getting recruitment right.

Tomorrow, we'll have approaching 40 years old, Ashley Young at right back, with approaching 100 league games and 0 assists, Mykolenko at left back - with a tall Everton number 9 waiting for crosses from both, or through balls from Doucoure.

Interesting points in here this afternoon. I'm definitely on the side of getting someone in. Unlikely we'll get world beaters but options at left back and right wing could really help.

Even if there are doubts about whether Dyche will play them, he's not forced to be here all season and the DoF model is all about getting the right players in for the club.

We're defending well since Branthwaite's come back, but we have no pace on the counter, or any player who can bridge/progress the ball. Signing them makes a world of difference to us.
I remain utterly convinced that Ndiaye playing where Doucoure does makes the world of difference.

His control of the ball and ability to drive forward in possession would forgo the lack of pace out wide as they'd have plenty of time to catch up with play. Plus he's more chance of actually picking the striker out with a through ball. Could make a world of difference to the way the side performs.

Thought the same, but wasn't convinced once he got a short spell there.

Think he's the only player who can progress the ball, and I reckon now that's best served on the wing where it's easiest to do so - such is our desperation for a ball carrier to get it anywhere up the pitch.

Maybe in a better team, he'd be a better player as second striker/number 10 but not sure.

Time wise - they were trying to buy the club last June, and been involved (big stakeholder with loan from that summer) since.

I dont think they'd be coming in blind, they'll know they'll need to protect the investment.

I'll be astonished if this window closes without us spending. If we'd signed Minteh, Gnonto, Kudus - those type of players Thelwell wanted, I think it would be worth a few points. Hopefully we can now, because if we can't it's going to go to the wire.

He wanted Elanga too. Would walk straight in to our first 11 without question. He’s never had the resources to get the players he’s wanted, and has instead had to make signings from the lost property bin. And you’ll still have some clueless people on here pointing the finger at his crap recruitment. “Kopite” Kev innit.

Even McNeil played a lot better in that role behind the striker. Basically anyone but Doucoure

And a last chance saloon for Harrison at left wing? Got to try salvage something from him too as he is here for the season and we are short of options.
