Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Yes I am, it still keep you up.

It's too big a gamble when it's relegation when there's opportunity to sign some pace/creativity now to help us, even earn another result or two.

We lose tomorrow, and Ipswich beat Fulham and that's us down is the type of margin you're talking.

17th/relegated;

16/17 - 34
17/18 - 33
18/19 - 34
19/20 - 34
20/21 - 29
21/22 - 35
22/23 - 34
23/24 - 26

Lose tomorrow, and we mirror the first 19 games in the second 19 and we end up on 34 points - that's down 5 of the last 8 seasons.

There will be a ceiling of affordability, which will be effected by player sales and other things, and if that ceiling happens to be 40 million then so be it.

But we bought Onana for about 35 million when we were in financial dire straits, and we can’t be cacking ourselves at this level of investment if we want to remain a PL club.

Pickford cost 30 million, and without him we’d have the modern version of Paul Gerrard and relegation would have been a reality.

We need to invest in good players, and good players cost good money!
And we were punished for it???

You're just throwing out platitudes while ignoring the reality of the situation.

What signings could we make that would help tomorow ??

If we win / draw, its another point(s) closer to survival.

Any that give us some pace/creativity above Doucoure, Mykolenko, Harrison.

You quoted before I edited but;

We're Branthwaite injury away from relegation IMO.

Do we regret buying Onana? Would we have been better off not buying him at all?

The reality of the situation involves a continued flirtation with relegation, which needs to be arrested to prevent relegation becoming a reality.

I’m not saying let’s blow our load. I am saying that an aversion to acting like a normal Premier League club will see you stop being a Premier League club.

We need players. Good ones!

Core to your point is if we equal this season so far, we'll be fine.

My point is how slim them margins are, and how it doesn't really support the view we don't need to strengthen to remain a Premier League team

If we lose tomorrow as I expect we will, we've never won at Bournemouth, - well that argument of we just have to maintain this season has gone given status quo of this season, relegates us 7 of the last 10 seasons.

It's not as simple as that Sky Sports narrative. That set us on the path - we failed/missed an opportunity, but other clubs spend what we did under Koeman regularly.

The stadium, Russia's war, ownership paralysis and in effect a 4 year transfer embargo has put is in the mess.

The below isn't sustainable - we've got to start spending again.

What this graph doesn't show is wages. Which we had and still do massively overspend in. It's the reason we are still in the PSR mire despite the pseudo transfer bans

Nobody at all said this mate.

The opinion seems to be that some / me have no faith they can strengthen.
