Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Aug I was sharing my view to get to Jan, head above water, with new owners and invest.

To be frank, we deserve relegation if we dont invest this January. You can't be relegation fodder for 3 seasons and not invest/have profit in the window for 4 seasons.

The biggest concerns for me are unlike a fair few recent seasons, we go into the second half of the season with numerous key starters having zero investment in what happens to the club and a manager in exactly the same situation.

Out the nominal starting 11 on average 6 won't be here next season as it stands add on the manager and that's 7/12 of key components that if we were t down would simply retire, find a new club with a good signing bonus, go back their parent club etc.

Doucoure, Gueye, Mangala, Young, Coleman, Harrison, DCL all going.
Even the players coming in for them are largely in the same boat, Broja, Lindstrom, Keane etc.

A combination of the fans, the players finally dogging in and managers getting the players buying into the support to dig late escapes out....

Not sure if we have one more left in the locker doing that this season...

Been saying this for ages mate and how that doomed Leicester years back when they had Maddison, Tielemans etc knowing they were off.

It's illjudged to think we can stutter over the line again - unless TFG know City are going down, or Leicester have a massive deduction coming.

It's not as simple as that Sky Sports narrative. That set us on the path - we failed/missed an opportunity, but other clubs spend what we did under Koeman regularly.

The stadium, Russia's war, ownership paralysis and in effect a 4 year transfer embargo has put is in the mess.

The below isn't sustainable - we've got to start spending again.

Ah mate we all know this, but the issues started with spending on poor players, with no real plan.

Then we was hit with the outside stuff, that stopped us fixing it all.

We have to get back to making good money, and being self-sustainable again.

Spending in isolation is not and has never ever been the issue, its spending with a plan and structure thats needed.

This poster just wants us to spend spend spend, and points to 3 good players in 9 years as proof, and all the duds as proof of bad oones....duh...its easy after-the-fact to point out the bad players.

Wrong wrong and so very wrong.

The last 3 years of so called penny pinching - (clearly a term you have just learnt) - is the result of years of OVERSPENDING.

We are not "penny pinching" through choice ffs!!! 🤣

Okay, so when can we stop the penny pinching and start acting like a normal Premier League club again?

Do you not think three years of penny pinching is enough? Or do you think a bit more penny pinching is required before we can start acting like a normal PL club again?

Maybe another two years worth of penny pinching, right?

No smoke without fire, its also his 21st today ;)
Ey...you know the window is in full swing when Africa Foot is mentioned.

If you don't trust TFG, who have been in football for years to sign players to improve us now, when will you?

The "Everton spent loads thats why they're in a bad way" isn't really the full picture. I know that's not what you're saying, but you've hinted at it and it's what the likes of Sky Sports love to claim.

I'd be intrigued to see transfer spend 5/10 years - this is what I found from April that is apparently last 10;

^ Count the number who have spent less - I see Southampton (who spent a few bob in the summer) and Brighton. The above doesn't include the summer either when we again made a profit.

And this is claiming the last 5 years.

For me, the only correlation with transfer spend and our position is not spending has put us firmly in the mire.

Sure, it helps if they're good players but I'm not as confident as you in Mykolenko and Young, Harrison and Lindstrom on the wings, with the Doucoure in the middle keeping us afloat.

You're speaking like this is by choice, or the last two fiscal years don't affect the current spending.

In the summer, when the PSR restrictions will be lessened due to the increased revenue coming into the club courtesy of the new stadium's added capacity. higher scope for creating commercial income via corporate tickets/sales, naming rights sponsorship etc. etc.

The club go and spend millions now, they're sailing close to the wind and might incur another review/point deduction.

Lack of investment in the playing squad isn't by choice. It's because we've had an absent owner, a zero balance and no wiggle room to spend.

Only at Everton would you get such an aversion to improvement whilst relegation stares you in the face.

I really hope that TFG realise that we will need to act like a prem club at some point, especially when it comes to buying forwards. Most clubs in the PL, including Everton, have a record signing of over 40 million.

Wolves had to pay over 40m for Cunha. Everton had to pay over 40m for both Richarlison and Sigurdsson. Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle have all recently spent in excess of 50 million on a single player.

If we carry on acting like a small club, then we are no doubt doomed to become one. It doesn’t make sense with the new stadium either. It’s about time we started acting like a top half Premier League club once again. We will continue to go nowhere, if we do not!
In principle I totally agree, but we need to make some smart Brightoneque cheap younger gem purchases alongside such excess splashes. Because our history of smart deals is very poor compared to the noisy neighbours.
