Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

In the summer, when the PSR restrictions will be lessened due to the increased revenue coming into the club courtesy of the new stadium's added capacity. higher scope for creating commercial income via corporate tickets/sales, naming rights sponsorship etc. etc.

The club go and spend millions now, they're sailing close to the wind and might incur another review/point deduction.

Lack of investment in the playing squad isn't by choice. It's because we've had an absent owner, a zero balance and no wiggle room to spend.

Rugs well an truly pulled if we go down though mate.

You're speaking like this is by choice, or the last two fiscal years don't affect the current spending.

I’m saying a couple of things:

Continuing with the penny pinching only leads to one outcome. There is no tactic that allows for a continuation of the penny pinching without further regression.

Circumstances have changed, and the ultra penny pinching doesn’t have to continue.

We cannot wait for the summer.

There have been enough changes of circumstances to allow for a change in the highly regressive shopping at Netto tactic.

We need to start acting like a normal Premier League club right now, we can’t delay it until the summer!

If you don't trust TFG, who have been in football for years to sign players to improve us now, when will you?

The "Everton spent loads thats why they're in a bad way" isn't really the full picture. I know that's not what you're saying, but you've hinted at it and it's what the likes of Sky Sports love to claim.

I'd be intrigued to see transfer spend 5/10 years - this is what I found from April that is apparently last 10;

^ Count the number who have spent less - I see Southampton (who spent a few bob in the summer) and Brighton.

And this is claiming the last 5 years.

For me, the only correlation with transfer spend and our position is not spending has put us firmly in the mire.

Sure, it helps if they're good players but I'm not as confident as you in Mykolenko and Young, Harrison and Lindstrom on the wings, with the Doucoure in the middle keeping us afloat.

If you think just signing players that the owners wnat will fix us, then you also have miss0read the whole situation of the last 10 years,

No structure at all to signing players....nothibng connecting them to style of play, way the manager plays, DOF etc.

TFG have been here 5 mins - do you really think throwing their weight aorund signing players will work ?? Do we not need a more cohesive footballing structire to identify what we want and need going forward ??

The ownership change does not change the last 2.5 years of losses.

The biggest benefit of the change for this January is that we don't need to buy players based solely on the payment plan.

The real work starts 7/1/2025.

There will be incomings this January, but there will be no 40 million players.

We need to remain a Premier League team before anything else.

There will be a ceiling of affordability, which will be effected by player sales and other things, and if that ceiling happens to be 40 million then so be it.

But we bought Onana for about 35 million when we were in financial dire straits, and we can’t be cacking ourselves at this level of investment if we want to remain a PL club.

Pickford cost 30 million, and without him we’d have the modern version of Paul Gerrard and relegation would have been a reality.

We need to invest in good players, and good players cost good money!

We did sign good players!

That Pickford feller, the one that has kept us in the Premier League for the last three years, he cost 30 million for a young goal keeper. We didn’t pick him up for 7-15 million.

Richarlison - worth the money, made a profit.

Onana - over 30m, made a profit.

Sigurdsson - a genuine top half player that scored and created goals. We’d have got some money back for him as well, or we wouldn’t have been quite as crap, without the arrest that didn’t even lead to a charge.

Iwobi - Not the best example, but someone that scored enough goals and assists for Fulham to come in and spend over 20m on him, and they consider it 20m well spent.

Most of our crap buys have been spending circa 20m on the likes of Klaassen, Bolasie, and Gbamin.

One thing is for sure, a continuation of the penny pinching will lead to a continuation of going nowhere but down.
Add Schneiderlin, Vasic, Mykolenko, Keane to the overpriced poor buys
