Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Some of that sounds like Pienaar tbh.

But thanks for the more in-depth stuff on him, I was thinking more profile is a good fit..
Not really, Pienaar worked his socks off. Whittaker is an out and out luxury player who doesn't put a shift in. This season defenders know that he's all left foot and just keep him on the right.

Edit - sorry , yes on the profile of player you are right. A Championship player with potential, hunger and a high ceiling is what we should get after but sadly Morgan isn't it in my opinion. Looks like he will go to Burnley for about £10 million ( Swansea have a 25%sell on ) and top 6 of the championship is about his level.

Surprised people are so negative on Cannon. He was a great finisher in our youth teams, also had a great loan at Preston. We only sold him because we were up against it with PSR. This season he's scored 9, assisted 1 in 22 championship games. At 22 years old, his championship record is 55 games, 19 goals, 3 assists. That's pretty exciting. He's also a player who can make a goal for himself with a touch around a defender or a longer range shot, something that we could do with given our midfield troubles.

Also consider that Chermiti and Broja are injured, DCL is on his way out and Beto is Beto. We also probably have some sort of clauses with Leicester we can use to knock the price down. It makes a lot of sense to me and I think when people saw him play they'd be surprised.

"no pace and lightweight" - Thats the Pienaar similarity, i meant.

I don't know enough about Whittaker, as you do mate. Happy to chalk it down to recency bias with his FA Cup goal on my part.

That's what I'm saying really, it would only make him look an idiot if we signed him back for more than we sold him for. We all know they didn't really want to sell and it was a PSR thing, if the opportunity came back to get him back for less/the same amount and they took it I don't see that as an issue. Nobody calls Monchi an idiot for selling and resigning both Archer and Philogene.

This really. I'm always amazed at the impact price has on transfers. Like there are loads of players who probably weren't great, but given the price we paid were great buys. The Kevin Kilbane paradigm as it were.

Cannon would be odd. We sold him for like 10m or whatever which was a good price. I'm not really sure he has kicked on at all in that time. I've not seen anything to suggest he is good enough. But for 3-4m who knows?

Agreed he can definitely perform at Championship level, but in terms of making the step-up Steve Cooper favoured a 37-year old Jamie Vardy, Reid and maybe Daka over him and promptly sent him to Stoke.

But then yeah it's Steve Cooper after all...
