Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I'd have thought McNeil was exactly the type of player Moyes loves personally. Hard working, reliable, good set pieces, can play a couple of positions, little bit of quality on the ball. It's like the Moyes checklist.

One swallow doesn't make a summer, we can't just decide the squad is fine as it is now because we've won one game, we still need significant quality bringing in if we want to avoid a nervy end to the season.

Said to my brother during the game, the result ultimately was the one we needed, as it showed the positives but laid stark the negatives too.

Soon as we tired yesterday we had no options off the bench to keep the momentum in the game - literally zero.

Then certain players (Doucoure) got very much exposed as being liabilities.

Describing McNeil - you perfectly stated what I said earlier, McNeil will be a good utility player under Moyes, don't think he'll nail down a starting place when Moyes gets in players he wants and people come back from injury, but he'll play a fair amount of games off the bench or to cover injuries etc.

Every side needs those players, God the 80s side had two of them in Richardson and Harper who became as essential to the teams success as the starters

Moyes will find a place for McNeil. There just needs to be a solution to the midfield behind him if he plays at 10. Doucoure is only useful off the ball in covering for Gueye and Mangala’s lack of pace.

I’m hoping if Garner can come back in we could play him and Mangala behind McNeil at 10 and Lindstrom Ndiaye either side.

Stick with the hybrid formation of 4-2-3-1/ 3-4-2-1 that Moyes was using.

you could put McNeil in at wing back/left back if only he could run without looking like he has timberlands on.

If Moyes is opting for a 'in your face' pressing style than Doucoure is in, no matter what others think, he presses.

His massive dip has coincided with Dyche opting not tot press as much as he did first half of last season.

We will need to replace Gueyes energy and harrying in midfield this summer though, ideally to partner a Garner who makes the spot alongside them in CM his own. Get a very good centre mid alongside garner and the need for a Doucoure type ahead disappears

6o good minutes does not a summer make!

We need the same type of players as we did on Friday
Think you need to read my post again.

I didn’t say we didn’t need players, I said if it takes a few days extra to make sure Moyes gets the right player for how he wants us to play so we can make changes at 60-70 mins so there isn’t a drop off like there was yesterday then I’m all for it.

What we don’t want is a rush to sign players this week and they end up not being used because they don’t fit the style the manager wants like Danjuma for example

Think he is a Moyes player myself, also one of the few that chips in with goals and assists.

We need a goos squad not just a good first 11, so to start selling our better players would be crazy.

Yeah I accept that he'd be a decent squad player but if we aspire to be a good team we need better than NcNeill starting games

I understood your post, was just saying that, despite the good 60 minutes, we still need the same payers as we did - asap.
