Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Based on yesterday, I think we need to give Moyes some time and not expect signings this week.

It’s clear for the first time in a long time what our manager wants our playing identity to be and so if Moyes takes an extra week to make sure the players he brings in fit that then I am all for it.
Haha
We beat Wolves 4-0 before Christmas and drew with three big sides.
Didn’t help Dyche much.

I think there's an obvious acceptance that we need new players and, given the contract situations in the summer - between now and then we may well need 10 players. However, mass overhauls rarely work - you only need to look at the likes of Chelsea and how changing everything in 12 months means it taking time for players to bed in etc

I'd say we are looking at maybe 3 players this month (winger, number 10 and possibly a striker if we shift Beto), but I'd say the summer is going to require a bit of thought

Keane, Coleman, Young and Doucoure are all leaving and there shouldn't even be a conversation with any of them about a new deal

You would assume that Calvert-Lewin already knows where he's going and that nothing Moyes says or does is going to change that.

I think there's an argument that Gueye has done enough to warrant another year, although he's practically our top earner currently and I'm not sure he warrants that

You've got the Lindstrom, Mangala and Harrison loans ending too

I absolutely understand the arguments for selling Mykolenko, Patterson and one or two others, but I think I'd be wary about absolute overhaul because of how disruptive it is - processes like this are usually best done over a few windows

Essentially you've got decisions to make about the loans

Lindstrom - I'd have said no until now, but Moyes seems to like him and there may end up being a player there after all. At 20m euros, it might not be a terrible move, but we should also be looking at the market to see if there's better value out there
Mangala - Lad can play, has more quality than most in our midfield, but the agreed price is plain daft
Harrison - Anyway...

We are going to need full backs on either side, maybe a young CB prospect or an old one for cover there, I think Iroegbunum and Garner are decent players and that Gueye has done enough for another year, but there's a lack of quality through midfield at times and I think at least one centre mid will be needed. I'd like to see an attacking midfielder come in this month, but if it doesn't happen then we 100% need that addressing in the summer. N'Diaye is quality, McNeil can be useful, we should hopefully see a new winger this month, so that leaves either buying Lindstrom or going elsewhere for another one, we must assume Calvert-Lewin is leaving and that Beto is gone sooner or later so we are probably going to need two strikers between now and the summer - I wouldn't at all be surprised if we revisited Broja in the summer - clearly he's a long term target of ours and you only need to Google the number of times West Ham were linked with him under Moyes - it became a bit of a running joke there according to my West Ham season ticket holder mate.

Based on all that, you're looking at (ideally) 3 this month and then 6 in the summer - it's necessary, but that's a really big overhaul in a 6 month period and for that reason I'd be against selling some of those with question marks over them like Patterson and Mykolenko for now

Mykolenko and McNeil should unless a stupid offer vibes in not being sold, as it stands right now we as you say need to add between 8-10 new players that's saying say we keep Lindstrom too.

Ideally both those should stay simply to prevent having to bring in even more, both are settled, both we can guarantee a certain level of performance from (yeah it's not amazing - but it is guaranteed - it's also a reason I think if he still is playing the same way end of season we may give Gueye a one year extension, all three provide experienced - senior reliable cover/depth)

It's like if your roof collapses and wrecks half the house, it's probably not the wisest time to decide to start landscaping the garden at the same time.

But totally agree to minimise the disruption we should look to get around 3 in this window - 2 is an absolute minimum. Just to make the recruitment in the summer a little more manageable.

I'm with you mate. I'm not for a single moment saying that I'm a fan of Mykolenko, Patterson and McNeil even but I think you want to defer making the changes you don't need to make - those three and Gueye would be on my list to improve upon 18 months from now, but I think you need to try to manage the overhaul - circumstances have dictated that the next six or seven months are going to be a period of enormous change - managing that change to make sure it's of benefit rather a huge disruption is the key. I even thought about Coleman, given he's seen a positive influence, but the lad can't stay fit now and I would expect he may even call it quits himself without any need for a decision.
