Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I'd say we need a minimum now of 3 in, and even that's leaving us really thin in spots.

As it stands we literally have next to nothing on the bench - players are gonna have to play 90 minutes no matter how goosed and that's when you're gonna start picking up even more injuries as a result.

Right now we have Young, Patterson, Keane, Harrison, Armstrong as quite literally the only fit outfield players left not starting.

Usually you aren't subbing on a CB so count Keane out, Armstrong is so I experienced and so far not been used by Moyes (gonna have to though now), Harrison is clearly not rated whatsoever.
Gives us Young and Patterson as the only choices to refresh in a game that Moyes seems to even semi trust.

Given Garner is just back from long term injury and Mykolenko has had issues staying fit in the past, that's scary as hell. Throw in that Doucoure doesn't seem to be able to last past 60 minutes anymore without looking dead on his feet and that Lindstrom gets brought off on the hour pretty much - presumably due to being run down to empty by then. Not even gonna look at Beto who we have no clue if he can do 90 minutes week in week out either.

We're just asking for injuries to start dropping other players if we don't seriously add some bodies to the squad who are good enough to actually play and are trusted by Moyes.

It's not even like we have much coming back, Tim in the near future and Chermiti god knows when.

Bare minimum is three, a striker, an attacking mid/wide forward/winger, one centre mid.

We can probably muddle through at the other positions just about, fullback and centre back - Dixon still around at a push adds a little bit more depth too. But the spine of the team is down to the bare minimum currently.

Will we get three in - yeah I still think so. Big week for TFG, Thelwell and Moyes this, get it wrong it'll look very bad should things take a turn for the worse

Very interesting to see us linked with Paul Barber coming in as the CEO.

IF that happens it's a huge statement of ambition from TFG and shows they really are looking at completely changing the club.

Barber is arguably the best CEO out there - by a margin as well, to get him from Brighton would ensure that are future commercial side of the business would be astronomically improved.

How good is he, just as an example he's the guy who got spurs the record sponsorship deal for their kit back in 2006 - 34m four year deal, back when we were getting 1.5m per year from Chang....

Knowing us, we will end up with this Paul Barber. Aka Denzil !

Be a pleasant surprise to get three in though we need it. Moyes has already said that three might not be doable but perhaps he was just underplaying expectations there, and that was before the injuries.
If we could get one in by Friday, that would be a start and have until Monday then to add a couple more.

I'll add though Bry, as important as getting them in is who they are, weirdly seeing three come in who remind of signing made under Moshiri will deflate the sense of hope that things are changing.

If the three who arrived say are Longstaff, Chilwell (loan) and Ings, this place will be like a deflating balloon.

Change that to it being Ferguson (loan), Mcatee and Diarra/Fellows and it would have a massive impact just from a psychological point on the supporters (and probably players too)

Rebuilding a club is all about changing how you are perceived that's arguably one of the hardest things to change without being brave

No argument there. It's easy enough to hand contracts out with buyers remorse, we've been doing it for more than a decade.

We aren’t getting Mcatee or Ferguson. Apart from no domestic loan spots being free, there’s varying other contributing factors as to why they are unrealistic imo.
Ferguson more likely to link up with Potter again and Mcatee sought after by other more likely destinations.

Out of the 3 you have listed, only 1 of them (Fellows) is playing football and starting regularly.

It’s ok having a wish list, but it needs to be reasonable.

To be fair Maupay had absolutely nothing going for him. He was undersized, smelly, slow and wasn't even really much of a goalscoring threat at Brighton. There was a reason he became third string striker. I and many others are still convinced it may have been a money laundering scheme. Ferguson technically has height and a bit of potential. He has to fulfill it though.

They need to make sure they don't forget the 'smelly' test this time. Imagine Mopeys breath !

Yeah I'm adamant that the one thing we cannot do now is bring in older experienced players late 20s, otherwise yeah we may push a bit towards mid table but we just repeat the cycle and having by this summer finally cleared quite literally all of the issues of the Moshiri era out of the squad - unmovable players on fat contracts beyond their worth, the greatest mistake ever would be to take a blank canvas and do the exact same thing again hoping this time it'll be different.

My opinion on Moyes staying here for the next few years depends on the next few days, if he brings in players purely for the immediate short term and on decent wages and length of contacts then he's making a big sign he's not bothered about building anything sustainable or which can grow, but just bothered about the optics of a short term boost to where we finish each year and wasting the opportunities provided to turn the club around...
