Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

We aren’t getting Mcatee or Ferguson. Apart from no domestic loan spots being free, there’s varying other contributing factors as to why they are unrealistic imo.
Ferguson more likely to link up with Potter again and Mcatee sought after by other more likely destinations.

Out of the 3 you have listed, only 1 of them (Fellows) is playing football and starting regularly.

It’s ok having a wish list, but it needs to be reasonable.

If we are close to PSR limits still then it would take some crazy accounting to get Ferguson and Mcatee surely - I don't see it.

I'll add though Bry, as important as getting them in is who they are, weirdly seeing three come in who remind of signing made under Moshiri will deflate the sense of hope that things are changing.

If the three who arrived say are Longstaff, Chilwell (loan) and Ings, this place will be like a deflating balloon.

Change that to it being Ferguson (loan), Mcatee and Diarra/Fellows and it would have a massive impact just from a psychological point on the supporters (and probably players too)

Rebuilding a club is all about changing how you are perceived that's arguably one of the hardest things to change without being brave
Sean Longstaff would be a great signing at the right price. Absolute workhorse of an 8, far better with the ball than he's given credit for.

A striker with pedigree, available immediately, free of charge on low wages.

I'll do devils advocate mate.

The Ferguson - Potter stuff is crap, it's a media trope they keep trotting out, potter left in late September '22, he played Ferguson ONCE in the leaguein Feb that year for 22 minutes when they were already 3-0 down. After that potter had him on the bench that season half the games not using him the other half didn't even make the bench, next season out of the potters 7 games in charge he picked him for the bench one not in the squad the other 6. De Zerbi (sp) played him 19 times after he took over.

So the media running about reuniting with him - making it sound like Potter was the guy who trusted him and brought him through, it'd be like Dyche getting credited with Armstrong and having a great relationship, utter bs.

But well it's West Ham and it's Potter, both favourites of the media, so who cares about facts

If both clubs offered the same deal to the player, there's zero saying rho he'd choose - maybe having Coleman and O'Brien here would have more sway than Potter, maybe working under Moyes would etc.

Mcatee yeah I agree other clubs perceived to better destinations will be interested, did t stop Delap going to Ipswich though did it? Similarly he's a young lad from the north west, wanting first team footy, with family connections to the clubs history who comes across as very much a grounded person (family important, hard working, no ego), most interest is apparently clubs wanting to loan him before buying, maybe the lads had enough moans as he spent two years out and if he leaves he'll want a permanent move. Linked in the summer with Newcastle, west ham, Fulham, sorry but if we can't compete with the latter two then it's time to give it up and turn the lights off and pack it all up, will he be that starter or just another squad player at Newcastle as they have a big squad already. Would city even sell to a current direct rival for a CL spot?

Most stuff on Mcatee is about clubs wanting him in the summer due to PSR constraints now, so there's a window to act now for us.

I get we've been crap for ages, but I never understand the mentality which essentially is us putting ourselves down in exactly the same or worse a way than anyone like Benetez ever did with his comments or Moyes, if we can't sign a highly touted young academy products from city then basically we are being regarded by ourselves as a less attractive choice than Saints a few years back or Ipswich this year who both signed highly rated city academy lads.

If we can't compete with West Ham for a loan signing - same West Ham that we beat out for Insna btw, then why can't we exactly?

Wish list is fine, and sorry but the only way it's an unrealistic one is if your expectation of the draw of playing for Everton has gone so low that it's beyond parody.

I'd say it's way more unrealistic to think that any of those four players is not very gettable if we pushed for them and certain circumstances allowed.

Would instantly improve our squad for the here and now. Does a lot of the dirty work on the pitch. However they would 100% want like £30m for him as they have recently taken the option of an extra year on his contract.

Any other clubs that need a mutually beneficial PSR swap deal?

Beto for Halland, Man City would benefit massively for Hallands wages alone, may even save them a PSR points deduction, whats Halland on £500'000 p/w ? I'm sure City and especially their fans would appreciate Beto, especially when they find out he's only on about £40'000 p/w. Let's face it City aren't winning anything this year anyway...

I read this in an article: “despite a subdued presence this season, Ferguson’s prior form under Potter’s management”

Prior form? Potter gave him 4 substitute appearances in all competitions and he scored no goals.

Makes me laugh as people just write anything for clicks without checking.

Feels surreal to type player with champions league experience in regards to sean longstaff , especially when a couple seasons ago under Benitez , anytime he was mentioned as a possible link there was genuine uproar from people on this forum. Like you I'd be open with him here far better option than Doucoure

Media and pundits constantly telling us we are this small tinpot club, ink us with utter crap and washed up cast offs.

Large part of the supporters then repeat this trope and rubbish any signing suggestion who falls outside the narrative given us by the media.

Same media who tried to sell out Branthwaite to United for a joke fee as well.

Same media that think it's on to link any player with west ham and no one bats an eyelid about why they'd go there ofc.

I'm just glad that the starting CF for Brazil found it within himself to stoop so low to stay at the club for three years, or that the national keeper has never felt the need to move away from such a lowly place to play...

Half the time I think a player gets what it means to play for us more than some of our fans do.

The club still has a pulling power for players far beyond what a lot give it credit for...

I think he improves our squad in the here and now. But still think he is fairly dross and we would be trying to replace him within 2 years.

Howe has got the best out of him and he looks a different player to 3 years ago which is the one we would have got under Benitez.
