Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Paying decent money for a player you'd need to replace in a year or so if you ever want to improve though...

Feel like we've been down this road a lot recently
All depends on price really...also there nothing to suggest he'd be moving on a year down the line.

While I do see what you're saying we've got to deal in the here and now and I trust Moyes if he thinks he's what we need at this moment in time.

sportwitness saying that Torino have offered 18 million euros for Beto, surely unless we have 2 strikers coming in we cannot entertain selling Beto? He is our only fit striker!

If we had DCL and Chermitti fit, with the prospect of a new player coming in before the deadline, then it would be a different story, but I just dont understand how we can sell him this window.
This is an example of why most clubs leave things late in the January window. Moving parts.

Unless you can throw money at targets who are going to agitate for a move to a club - Man City for example, every club needs to make sure that if they are buying or selling, that they have either space or a replacement lined up.

If we have an offer on the table from Torino for Beto, I'm sure it's been provisionally accepted but is contingent on our signing a replacement. Whoever we have targeted will be no different - "yes, we'll sell you X if we can get either A,B or C to cover." And the cycle moves to the next club(s) down the line...and so on.

Thought it was only 5x as that’s the length of contract so would be £25m and £2m?

Yup but as it's half way through the season any incoming only counts as 50% of a normal seasons payment.

My math is off slightly though it'd free up 45m not 50m

45m on a four and a half year contract works out at 10m amortisation per season so for a half season (now) 5m

I'll do devils advocate mate.

The Ferguson - Potter stuff is crap, it's a media trope they keep trotting out, potter left in late September '22, he played Ferguson ONCE in the leaguein Feb that year for 22 minutes when they were already 3-0 down. After that potter had him on the bench that season half the games not using him the other half didn't even make the bench, next season out of the potters 7 games in charge he picked him for the bench one not in the squad the other 6. De Zerbi (sp) played him 19 times after he took over.

So the media running about reuniting with him - making it sound like Potter was the guy who trusted him and brought him through, it'd be like Dyche getting credited with Armstrong and having a great relationship, utter bs.

But well it's West Ham and it's Potter, both favourites of the media, so who cares about facts

If both clubs offered the same deal to the player, there's zero saying rho he'd choose - maybe having Coleman and O'Brien here would have more sway than Potter, maybe working under Moyes would etc.

Mcatee yeah I agree other clubs perceived to better destinations will be interested, did t stop Delap going to Ipswich though did it? Similarly he's a young lad from the north west, wanting first team footy, with family connections to the clubs history who comes across as very much a grounded person (family important, hard working, no ego), most interest is apparently clubs wanting to loan him before buying, maybe the lads had enough moans as he spent two years out and if he leaves he'll want a permanent move. Linked in the summer with Newcastle, west ham, Fulham, sorry but if we can't compete with the latter two then it's time to give it up and turn the lights off and pack it all up, will he be that starter or just another squad player at Newcastle as they have a big squad already. Would city even sell to a current direct rival for a CL spot?

Most stuff on Mcatee is about clubs wanting him in the summer due to PSR constraints now, so there's a window to act now for us.

I get we've been crap for ages, but I never understand the mentality which essentially is us putting ourselves down in exactly the same or worse a way than anyone like Benetez ever did with his comments or Moyes, if we can't sign a highly touted young academy products from city then basically we are being regarded by ourselves as a less attractive choice than Saints a few years back or Ipswich this year who both signed highly rated city academy lads.

If we can't compete with West Ham for a loan signing - same West Ham that we beat out for Insna btw, then why can't we exactly?

Wish list is fine, and sorry but the only way it's an unrealistic one is if your expectation of the draw of playing for Everton has gone so low that it's beyond parody.

I'd say it's way more unrealistic to think that any of those four players is not very gettable if we pushed for them and certain circumstances allowed.
I agree the Ferguson/ Porter link was a bit lazy. Just think he’s more likely to stay in the south as a younger lad and West Ham a more likely destination for him than Everton.

Plus I’d steer clear of him anyway, I don’t believe he’s the answer to what we need right now. Even more so if he has any issues whatsoever.

We need a striker ready to go straight in and lead the line.

You appear to be just making numbers up at this point.

Simple math, if Beto is sold for 18m, we have 18m to spend.

Not arguing mate, but I think the here and now thing we've done to death and it leads into a downward spiral, how about for the now and future.
I get that, but also think the current situation changes that with relegation still a concern, injuries, and who really knows about how we are looking psr.

I think all that changes in the summer and then completely agree.

If the lad was smart Bournemouth is the best short term move on loan.

If he wants to sort his life out then he needs a club that looks after him with players and a manager who'll take him under their wing so to speak

Is that us - got no idea, Coleman may hate the lad lol.

Without knowing the exact situation. Seems like a lot of his issues cone from being so young, moving countries, a club that sees young players just as a commodity to develop fast then sell for huge profit, throw in a bad injury and bingo you have a player going off the rails with no support. I'd hope to think we are better at that but maybe not.

Talking about PSR limits not about financial backing from the owners.

You appear to be just reading what you want to read.

Conversely if we sold a player under Bill it didn't mean we had that money to spend capiche?

SELL...massive price for a poor striker.

Agree.

I’d be going after Lewis Miley in the summer, 18 year old, centre mid with lots of potential. I’m sure Newcastle would want to keep him but they have an excellent midfield anyway and he would be a great sale for their PSR, same as Anderson, who has been a big hit at Forest.
They won’t be letting miley go. Longstaff will be their psr sale which is why they have taken the 1 year option on his contract.
