Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Haven't we had enough of the words 'risk, if, could, rumour' wouldn't it be nice to buy a player who, when he puts the shirt on is ready to go out there and do a job for us without question.
If you include just one of those words in a report on a potential player for us you just know he's going to be a dud

This lad Ferguson at Brighton was a good player when he burst on the scene and scored a few goals for them but boy I smell a rat in that for whatever reason they seem too kean to let him go.
Andy Gray, Peter Reid, Big Dunc, Andrei Kanchelskis - just off the top of my head 4 players that were huge risks due to various factors

Brighton don't make too many mistakes when it comes to recruitment though, if they are willing to let him go then there is a reason for it. The only others I can think of are Undav who just didn't settle in the system and Gyokeres who they never actually wanted to sell, he was just desperate to play games.
So they don't often make mistakes, apart from 2 of the most prolific strikers in Europe in the last couple of years?

that Gruda who cost them £30m is absolute undies too.

And for a team that still has a back line with Veltman, Van Hecke & Dunk in it, there recruitment focus needs looking at, i suppose thats what happens when you recruit solely on stats, you cant really stat scout defenders

I'm very dubious about the whole lifestyles thing and really do not care. Solanke had a reputation for it at that lot and once he moved away turned into a cracking player. Barkley was bad up here and once he calmed down he got worse as a footballer. Roy Keane used to be out all the time. It could be something, it could be nothing. It may not even be real.

My main concern would be buying a currently injured, injury prone striker to resolve an injury crisis. Did we learn nothing from Broja?

I'd not class him as injury prone, one bad ankle injury and a minor one.

Bit like calling Barkley it at 20 cos he'd broken a leg and missed a year, majority of players his age are still in the academy and you'd not even have noticed hed had it by the time he broke through.

Be way more worried if it was hammy or thigh etc

I think it's clear that one way or another they haven't been happy with his level of professionalism and so they're probably at a stage where the sort of fee he could command starts to look worth taking. The question is whether he's a hopeless case or if a change of scene/being handled differently gets him back on the right path.
Has there been any evidence of him wrongdoing , if so has he been disciplined by his club.
His injuries are a tad concerning but I've not seen anything other than Internet rumours & tittle tattle over his lifestyle.
I don't buy the drug taking stories at all , he's a professional footballer and monitored and tested on a daily/ weekly basis.

He's a very talented boy plus a real handful and would come at a premium and Brighton of all clubs don't sell cheaply.
Would I like him here ?....most definitely.

As an Irishman, I am intrigued by Evan Ferguson, whether he comes here or not. Unlike pretty much every Irish player of the last decade, Ferguson has talent and lots of it. I saw enough of that two years ago. Not in doubt. Had we been linked with him back then, we'd have been thrilled. But now? I have no insight, just gut feeling, but he strikes me as being one of those Irish "lads" in the laddish sense of that word, a fella who fancies himself who is probably a bit too "smart" for his own good. There's too much of a whiff of the boyo off him for my liking. Now, at 20, that could be managed. It's possible that the young fella managing Brighton is a bit too young to do that, himself.

I think Ferguson would be a massive risk with huge upside. I'd hate to be making the decisions on this one. In that sense, I hope it is Moyes deciding yay or nay, if the player is open to coming here (which I doubt). Because Moyes needs to back himself here. That said, I've never been convinced Moyes knows how to spend big money. He's been unparalleled spending peanuts, but useless with wads of the stuff. Hence his failure at United.

One thing spending big money on this fella would say, however, is that TFG mean business. Whether it's a wise punt is a totally different kettle of fish. It'd be a brave move, that's for sure...

I'm sure everyone on here was making amazing lifestyle choices at 20 years old. Obviously it's something to be looked at but it's a bit young to be writing anyone off.

Good. Might be one for the future but six months in Scotland doesn’t really prove anything. Not sure his numbers up there are anything Chermiti couldn’t match.

Fairly sure if chemitti went and played up in that ale house league. They'd be building some sort of mayan temple and sacrificing the local heroine dealers in some form of worship to him as a deity.

Surely Coleman would have the inside track on him as well and no better man to put the arm around the shoulder if needed.

Wrongdoing is a slightly different thing. I have no idea whether there's anything in the drug talk and am not suggesting it's true. It's clear that there have been issues though, both De Zerbi and Hurzeler have talked about it.
