Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

How would it be a mistake exactly? They got him for next to nothing, think there is a 10% sell on clause from Bohs, but the rest would be pure profit.
If they thought there was something there still worth working with they would be keeping him, the whole clubs ideology is about young talent, We will see at the end of the day, not for me though.

Has there been any evidence of him wrongdoing , if so has he been disciplined by his club.
His injuries are a tad concerning but I've not seen anything other than Internet rumours & tittle tattle over his lifestyle.
I don't buy the drug taking stories at all , he's a professional footballer and monitored and tested on a daily/ weekly basis.

He's a very talented boy plus a real handful and would come at a premium and Brighton of all clubs don't sell cheaply.
Would I like him here ?....most definitely.
Put up earlier, on their forums the rumour was he had glandular fever last year - and it flared up again after recovering- it also would way more explain how his energy levels look not quite the level they were

Brighton have sold a lot of excellent talent. Viktor Gyokeres and Marc Cucurella to name but two. I'm not sure their model is to keep the talent, just monetise it and reset.

Football is littered with players with lifestyle choices gone bad. If youth is on your side then it can be turned around. You get one chance to do that for the most part in life.
So I’ve no idea whether the speculation is based on fact or the standard internet rubbish but generally who would you use as an example of turning around serious lifestyle issues like you speak of .

I totally agree football has plenty of warning stories out there , young men putting themselves in trouble but redemption tales seem a little scarcer on the ground .

As an Irishman, I am intrigued by Evan Ferguson, whether he comes here or not. Unlike pretty much every Irish player of the last decade, Ferguson has talent and lots of it. I saw enough of that two years ago. Not in doubt. Had we been linked with him back then, we'd have been thrilled. But now? I have no insight, just gut feeling, but he strikes me as being one of those Irish "lads" in the laddish sense of that word, a fella who fancies himself who is probably a bit too "smart" for his own good. There's too much of a whiff of the boyo off him for my liking. Now, at 20, that could be managed. It's possible that the young fella managing Brighton is a bit too young to do that, himself.

I think Ferguson would be a massive risk with huge upside. I'd hate to be making the decisions on this one. In that sense, I hope it is Moyes deciding yay or nay, if the player is open to coming here (which I doubt). Because Moyes needs to back himself here. That said, I've never been convinced Moyes knows how to spend big money. He's been unparalleled spending peanuts, but useless with wads of the stuff. Hence his failure at United.

One thing spending big money on this fella would say, however, is that TFG mean business. Whether it's a wise punt is a totally different kettle of fish. It'd be a brave move, that's for sure...

The downside for me is also mitigated - rumours of 40m, ok say we do it and he flops, he'd be 22 in two years and we simply flip he on and likely still recoup 25m on the lad due to just how high his potential is - see Moise Kean.

It's a big risk but the risk is mitigated

They went all in with the young German though, if he won't play him then what options does the club have as they want the manager there long term...

Can just see how not playing will damage evaluation and rep by looking at O'Brien - most had written him off as rubbish almost
