Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Brighton have sold a lot of excellent talent. Viktor Gyokeres and Marc Cucurella to name but two. I'm not sure their model is to keep the talent, just monetise it and reset.
Yes it is to recycle and sell on but not normally at the age Ferguson is, usually players are a bit older when they let them go.

So I’ve no idea whether the speculation is based on fact or the standard internet rubbish but generally who would you use as an example of turning around serious lifestyle issues like you speak of .

I totally agree football has plenty of warning stories out there , young men putting themselves in trouble but redemption tales seem a little scarcer on the ground .

You probably don't know the ones that did as the age was different even ten years ago compared to the internet now.

They very rarely let players leave at that age though, he isn't for me tbh (and its nothing to do with his talent) We will see, not even signed him, also notice West Ham have swerved and are looking at Pepi.
I think there is talent there, but people making out like he is this world class talent that’s unplayable etc is way over the top.

He scored like 6 goals last season.

With the rhetoric being used, if he comes here, he will have to hit the ground running and if he is this world class talent that’s as good as being made out, he wouldn’t be coming to us in the state we are in and Brighton wouldn’t be looking to sell him.

Not by much, though. Gyokeres was 22, Cucurella 23. Ferguson is a faster developer than both of those. He was like a bull at 18. They might feel his time has come. That's why the risk will be high with this one for whoever buys him.

They went all in with the young German though, if he won't play him then what options does the club have as they want the manager there long term...

Can just see how not playing will damage evaluation and rep by looking at O'Brien - most had written him off as rubbish almost
He fell out with the previous manager also though, this has happened twice which some don't seem to realise. Look I'm not against this as the kid looked decent a few season ago but its a massive risk imo.

I'd have gone for MacAllister and Caiceido as examples. Gyokeres never got a sniff there in fairness. (Poor choice of words given the noise around Evan Ferguson)

Yes, but the fact Gyokeres never got a sniff shows you that Brighton's judgement is not infallible. This is why buying him might be possible and why doing so would not necesarilly be them pulling our pants down.

I've seen enough of Ferguson. The last time I saw somebody with his strength and touch up front was Alan Shearer. Ferguson was stronger than even him at 18. If he has any sort of career, he will be Ireland's best forward since Frank Stapleton.

Not a one to one comparison but Forest signed Hudson Odoi for 3mil. He was absolutely racked with injuries and also had a bad rep off the field.

Football is a game of risk unless you've got huge stacks of cash to spend on proven talent, which clearly we don't.

No idea if Ferguson is the guy for us but as risks go, the upside is pretty big if it works.

Edit: with all that said, Ferguson will be a lot more than 3mil so the risk is greater.

Our signings usually hit the ground limping and then go missing for 4 months.

Its mad the way some people are going on about him, I keep having to check which player we are talking about, He is an injury prone youngster who IF he sorts himself out could go on and become half decent, no more than that for me.
