Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

List of Thelwell Loans:

Lindstrum
Broja
Mangala
Harrison x 2
Broja
Viangre
Coady

Not sure if it was him
Van de Beek
El Ghazi

Even without those last 2, that's a pretty disastrous list.
Can we keep big nose Kev away from our loan deals, or better yet, just bin them off, i don't think they work for us like they used to with our nostalgic Lukaku, Pienaar, Deulofeu, Arteta heads on.
Yeah there’s a lot of crap in there. But clubs aren’t making great players available for loan, it’s pretty much raking through other clubs’ bins. Even the better loans have probably been beyond us financially.

I’m not sure loans are a brilliant way to judge Thelwell. Well run clubs don’t need four loans to put out a team. As with a lot of things the greater blame is with those who ran the club so badly we’ve had to go begging for other clubs’ chaff.

Wow that's a poor list. Moyes holds all the cards at Everton at the minute, thelwell isn't the new owner's man, but Moyes is for the time being, so I expect Moyes will go in and pick the players himself.

I get the financial constraints but that is so poor. Can't think of a unknown gem he has unerthed either. Ndiaye was well known, maybe Tim but time will tell. Its poor.

What is a brilliant way to judge Thelwell?

Because the squad is absolutely diabolical, unbalanced garbage. It plays the worst football in the division and by the summer we’ll need to bring in about 10 new players just to fill a match day squad.

But people keep telling me I shouldn’t be judging the director of football on any of that.

Nuamah basically needs to be agreed on by Tuesday if we want to feature him v Brighton. Takes about 2 days for a Work Permit hearing normally and Moyes won't throw him in with a few days training first. They need to make a decision ASAP
It is a given that no new players will be involved until Leicester home game in February. We are basically thrown away all the fixtures in January hoping for the best when we know we don't have the squad to compete. Thelwell has his excuses between the change of manager, the recent change of ownership and the difficulty of January window. Zero accountability...something we were told by sources around the club that it will change. So far, it is the same song playing over and over.

Only works if they agree, they don’t have to whatsoever (Leeds or Chelsea). We can only take one from any domestic club anyway.

I think we’ll swap Broja for Dewsbury Hall.
I think this would appeal to Chelsea as we would be sending Broja back on £40k p/w and taking Dewsbury-Hall on £80k p/w

I`ve seen Chilwell might be a free transfer, but wages will be an issue, £200k per week!!!! WTAF!

£15m plus over £100k in wages every week!

This looks a bit football manager but.... I`m gonna do it anyway!

Outs
DCL £15m, saving £100k per week in wages
Harrison, £90k p/w wages, cost to send back c2.3m
Broja, £40k p/w, cost to send back c£1m
Beto, £15m saving £50k p/w
And I`d get rid of Doucoure for whatever we could get and saving £100k p/w

£380k p/w saved in wages
£3.3m paid to cancel loans and give us our 2 domestic loans back
£30m in transfer fees plus whatever we could get from Doucoure

That should give us massive wiggle room to get 4/5 or 6 players we need.
Sounds good but I don't think we would get 15m for DCL at this time due to only a few months left on his contract.

The one thing no one seems to give much consideration to is the challenge of persuading players to come to Everton.
We are the ugly one hanging round the edge of the dance floor , and we’ve been there since the first record was spun.
We have to wait until the last song for everyone to get desperate ( and very drunk ) before we have a chance .

Been a long time since I've been eagerly anticipating a window.

Having said that how much damage can he do taking over a club mid jan window. Trust him more than all our passed directors combined.

He should be judged on the balance of the team. All the points about scraping around for players, no cash etc are valid but we still require a semblance of a team from the players brought in.

The midfield is a mess so, on balance, he’s not done a great job of recruitment (but a good job for the cash flow).

If their desperate to offload Chilwell, could be a free or minimal fee with Dewsbury Hall on loan.

Could live with that.
You'd be making a left back with a history of injuries our highest paid player (by quite a distance). Thelwell has spend the past 3 years clearing the deadwood and high salaries off the books, makes no sense to start that cycle again.
