Would Max Aarons be another of those sign ings people would whinge “can’t believe we signed a relegated defender” before even watching them play?
Gueye says hello - replace defender with midfielder.

I’d rather we had full-backs that can cover CB’s than the other way round. Just look at how much more Digne offers than everyone else.
Tend to agree with you there pal.

On a semi-related note, I cannot help but think towards the medium term... Holgate and Godfrey will presumably edge Keane and Mina out as the preferred CB partnership as all four of them age. Put those two alongside Digne and all of a sudden you are a pacy RB away from being able to play a much higher line in defence.

Unfortunately it doesn’t matter how high or deep the line is with Prickford in nets.

Aarons is a good right back who is in high demand however if £30m is quoted (Daily Mail) take it with a pinch of salt, that's pre-covid prices.

With Norwich relegated and Covid impact loss of revenue which for Everton was around £67m based on our finances, they will want £30m but I think we could get him for £20m plus add-ons.

We also have a right back in Kenny who could be sold to fund some of this fee or used as a makeweight.

Honestly though with Norwich top of the Championship, they will be holding our for the full £30m so why not look at the other options:

Djed Spence - Middlesbrough
20 years old with much of the same qualities of Aarons with great pace and cost a lot less.

Emerson - Betis
If you are going to spend £20m plus you cannot think this guy isn't option number one. 21, fast, powerful and effective in assists and goals.

Dumfries - PSV
200 games at right back with 20 goals and 30 assists is not to be dismissed. Experienced and only 24 plus Brands will know all about him. £20m ready player.

Emerson and failing that, Aarons

Two clear and obvious targets.

Yes.
This or ‘I’ve watched Norwich loads and I can tell you they were dreadful the year they went down’.

We definitely need another striker, but the problem is that whoever we go after knows they are only second string to DCL. I can see the point in getting a RW in.

Holgate has put to bed the need for another right back for me.

if Gbammin is going to be ready then I don’t see us bringing anybody in there until Allan is fit.
In the modern quality full backs that are great going forward IE Digne are massive. Holgate & Godfrey have done great, but they aren’t the answer long term.

I think because of injuries and the way we were conceding goals, I think Ancelotti decided to shut up shop for a few games, especially over this busy period and try and nick a few results, which has worked great so far.

But take Richarlison, who has worked hard the last 3 games as normal, but with no Digne over lapping it’s made it easier for the opposition to Mark him and double up at times.

I think we really need to be looking long-term with any signings we make, given the losses we’ve made and the players still on huge deals. Wouldn’t be interested in any short term fixes like Khedira myself. The only position I’d say we need in January is a striker, and if anything I expect us to loan one.

At the end of the season, Walcott, Pennington, Besic, Bolasie, Connolly and a few other youngsters are all going, and Olsen probably won’t be signed, saving us about £250k p/w.

The big one though will be the players with a year left on their deals (exp 2022): James, Gylfi, Bernard, Delph, Lossl, Tosun, Kenny, Baningime, Coleman, and Branthwaite. Should be looking to offload all of them bar James, Coleman and Branthwaite to make a few quid and save on their huge wages (probably about £500k p/w). That gives us a hell of a lot of room to do good business in the summer. Hopefully we can get rid of one or two in Jan.

Could do with another forward and a cm for that third cm slot next to Allen and doucoure, we’ll need to shift a few of the dossers that are taking up a wage but if we do can see moshiri taking the risk and spending a decent chunk in jan
