I desperately wanted us to sign somebody this January but didn't think we would. Surprised to see us getting a midfielder in with Khedira but don't see him as the top 6 pushing cover we need.

I wish we went for more of these exotic wonder kids people mention in this chat. As we've seen with Keane, even if it doesn't work out with us we can sell/loan them out and not lose money.

Walsh spent £45m on Sig and £25m on Keane that had 12 months left on his deal.

My point was Walsh was good at finding younger players for relatively cheap not that he was good overall.

Given how tight the league is right now, not just for Europe but for the title itself there is no other option but to go big this transfer window.

We really need to start going back to the punts for 5-10m on youngsters with promise. It doesn't kill us if it doesn't come off, they'll invariably be on low wages.

And you can just spin them on a year later for a profit if it doesn't work out. Look at the last 5 years and the young players we've bought their either playing in the squad or sold at a profit or will be sold at a profit.

We should be buying 2-3 under 23's that can come into our squad for low fees and either sell on in a year or two or be useful members of the squad.

Its clear we need better quality and if CA thinks Khedira is what we need then I think we have to back him. 18 month contract on a free or loan doesnt represent a huge risk but if it helps get us in top those European spots then we can attract better........

I may have said it before, the squad does lack quality, even with our injuries back I think we are still short in some areas. I would have thought the deals would have been done or close to being done but this is Everton and we will not see any till much later in the month when we are probably too far away for the new guys to make an impact....
