We were better at doing that under Walsh than we have under Brands. Which is annoying as I thought Brands was meant to be good at it.

Were we really though?

Walsh under 23's
Vlasic 9m
Lookman 10m
DCL 1.5m
Sandro 5.75m
Onyekuru 7m

Brands under 23's
Richarlison 35m
Mina 27m
Iwobi 27m
Kean 25m
Gbamin 23m
Branthwaite 700k
Nkounkou 700k
Godfrey 23m

Brands may of spent more on young players but he also mostly bought players that are first teamers and we will make a profit on nearly all of them.

As opposed to walsh that apart from one, bought players that couldn't break into our first team and one absolutely horrendous buy who cost us over 5m a year in wages for 4 years.

I'm not saying all of walshes younger buys were bad but they didn't really impact the team and brands have.

I was only counting players not playing regularly in top class teams. So I wasn't really putting Richarlison, Kean, etc. in. It was more about uncovering talent. Vlasic, Lookman and DCL is an impressive two year haul.

Brands has done well with Nkounkou and Branthwaite but too early too tell. It's a fairly high bar.

Do think we have a 5-goal midfielder in Doucoure. Need him to be doing what he did v Fulham more though, and in that sense we need to build sustained attacks to ensure that our midfielders can work their way into the box. Also then need the service too - Digne a big part of that, as is James.

Why I do think if I had to choose for me that midfielder coming in would be a more attacking one. Someone who can pop up with 5-10 goals a season either by scoring thunder**** or making those runs into the area.

Throw in another forward as an option to rotate/switch systems and we're laughing in that area of the pitch.

Both of those things aren't going to happen in this window, but one of them needs to. At the moment, the forward is more of a priority.

When you say forward are you talking a CF like DCL or someone who can operate across all 3 positions?

Vlasic, Lookman and DCL dont play in top class teams tho.

Yeah but my point is that the successes your claiming, arent that.

DCL is playing in a top league for a good side, the other 2, arent.
Because we refused to develop them. They're both good enough to play for us so they'd have been successes.

Not really trying to have this argument. My point is that I thought we'd get 2-3 lesser known players with room to grow coming in per year and so far Brands has basically done 1 a year. Which puts a lot of pressure on those dudes to break through.
