Everton January transfer window 2021

It's meant to be slightly easier apparently. This lad is also only 19 and has already scored in world cup qualifying so he'd probably get special dispensation even under the old rules (well, provided he signed for anyone other than Everton).

Yep.

Honestly, Brexit should be a big positive for British football. It's frustrating that so many are missing that.

We can still get EU players, obviously, they just have to be over 18 IIRC.

Non-EU players, we have more freedom, and it will eradicate a lot of the work permit issues we previously saw. It'll make the process easier, especially when going for players from the Americas.

The main positive for me is that it also should encourage clubs to build on homegrown talent, rather than shopping in France, Spain etc for players when they're 14, 15, 16.

Just purely on football, it shouldn't be a bad thing. And it's not like players from EU countries can't be bought. It'll be relatively very simple to get a work permit for them, just maybe makes the process drag out a bit longer (so we probably ought to speed up our deals in that case).

Don’t get the Bernard deal at all

He scored against Man Utd this season and effectively helped us beat sheff Utd with his quick thinking yet we are going to swap him for a player who will be on our bench for the next 3 years with sporadic appearances against Leyton orient and gillingham in the cups.

We already have lossl and Virginia as well

I doubt Carlo sees him as the long term successor for Pickford. He made about 30 mistakes in the fist 10 minutes against Man Utd in the quarter finals
Bernard is awful
You didn’t mention his performance v West Ham or v Utd in the cup.
he’s on a huge wage so get him off the bill imo.

They obviously think Olsen will be a very good number 2 for a few years. I have no doubt a number 1 will replace Pickford in the next few windows

Need some speed in the midfield.

Team needs some help, Brands should be working and getting some new players in and getting rid of deadwood. If he fails to do anything in this transfer window the club need to move him on. Chance to finish in a good spot, need to act.

I think the injury he had has really ruined him. He was by no means a great player before his injury like but he doesn't even look like he can play football any more. I think at the start of the season the club probably thought he'd match Kean's contribution from last season which was their justification for loaning him without replacing him and first season Tosun probably would have done so without any issue but we can see now he's clearly not up to it.

He just looks lost whenever he comes onto the pitch.
I don't know, it's very hard to judge whether he's gone backwards based on less than a half of football spread over about half a dozen games. He might have done like, but it seems a bit too early to be making that sort of call.

I mean tbf he scored what, 5, 6 goals after he signed? It wasn't a bad return all in all given the lack of chances we created, like. He put them away when they came to him.

Just remember thinking at the time that he looked very Jelavic - and it was proved in Silva's first season.

Tosun isn't a patch on Jelavic, not even close. Not even with the Jelavic drop off hindsight.

Jelavic had real quality, and that 1st 6 months he was brilliant. I don't think there are many players I have loved as much, as quickly. But Moyes changed the system to have him run the channels, like he did with Bent, Beattie, Johnson, and tried to do with Yak, etc. Totally killed his impact and his confidence.

The most baffling thing was he then went and signed his strike partner from Rangers, and proceeded to play him on the wing and kill his impact and confidence as well. I'm sure it made some sort of sense to him at the time.

Back to Tosun. He did score a few important goals at the back end of that season, and as painful to watch as we often were under Allardyce, his 2 signings did have a relative impact at the time. But it was clear early on that he (Tosun) didn't have much to his game.

Earlier this season, I foolishly thought a reinvigorated Tosun, under the tutelage of Ancelotti, and with a new found confidence, could perhaps come in and put himself about, and with the added creative flair of James, maybe even be something of late in the game super sub, taking advantage of tiring defenders who had been put through their paces from 85 mins of DCL's running and battling. But alas, no. He has barely broken a sweat and couldn't look less interested.

In the end, the most impressive thing Tosun has managed is to make Oumar Niasse look good, both in terms of quality, desire and most importantly, value.

The big losers are clubs who did the above, ie Chelsea, Liverpool and City.

Sadly the problem is that English players are utter garbo.

They get all their talent coached out of them to become technically excellent, but almost robotic-like and lacking in natural flair.

Manager doesn't fancy him. Both clubs can inflate fees for respective players which works well for FFP/accounts.

Yeah I agree Jelavic was a better player, just meant more in how his style compared to Tosun. Both pretty much useless anywhere except the 18-yard box.

We made an absolutely ludicrous call in October to have Tosun (who wasn't even fit at that stage) be our back up forward heading into the winter. A winter we knew at that stage would be busy (we'd already got into the EFL Cup quarters) and had the added risk of COVID.

It was stupid, and it resulted in us flogging DCL and to a lesser extent Rich, who has his own issues.

Somehow, we've scraped through, but as we saw v Utd and then the other day, we just have very little to change games.

Do you think thats the case now? England teams up to under 17 normally play very well. They just don't get exposure.

Yeah I mean that is an issue like.

Just saying, there's a positive side to it - up to the clubs, FA etc to use it. Everybody bangs on about wanting young, homegrown talent. Well if teams can't go and get a 15-year-old from France, then hopefully a 15-year-old from Liverpool will get more of a chance.
