Everton January transfer window 2021

At minimum, we should be identifying and signing a loan striker, as a matter of urgency.

The bar doesn't need to be particularly high, 5 goals would be a great return from a loan striker between now and May.

Someone with pace would be an added bonus.

As it is, we'll sign nobody of that ilk or be left hanging on deadline day.

If we need to wait till then so be it, but not acting at all cannot be countenanced.
At a minimum we should strapping Coleman to an Intercontinental ballistic missile and firing him to Venus.

Sort it Wyness

100% agree, it's a process.

But there are priorities.

We don't really need a back-up LB, we just need Carlo to trust a young lad. He should do it. Because we need to spend money elsewhere.

GK, RB, midfielder - we can hold them off until the summer.

But we can't - and we couldn't in October - rely so heavily on two lads for our forward line. It was a daft decision and, while I understand the factors in play, I don't buy that we could not have mitigated the risk in someway heading into a season full of opportunity but full of more danger of injury, covid (long covid like Lascelles and ASM at Newcastle, even) and then the added fixture pile ups.

It's already cost us being able to at least give the League Cup more of a go - and we knew in September that we'd got to the quarters.

Going off what reliable people said, it was an intentional gamble.

Either way it's just absolutely nuts.

CF: DCL / Richarlison / Kean / Tosun / Simms

Of course Kean is on loan but we still have 3 senior centre forwards for one position + a prospect.

Dont think thats too bad myself...

Well we were never fixing the whole squad in the summer sadly.

Yeah, your saying we only needed an attacker, but we didn't only need an attacker, we needed a new GK, a new RB, an option in midfield, a back up LB.
The central midfield, which was the no.1 priority in the summer by far, got an overhaul just with the additions of Allan & Doucoure, yet people also expected us to sort out a brand new right back, right winger, goalkeeper, centre back & striker at the same time. It was just never gonna happen.. although we still managed to bring Godfrey in as well.

I don't see us signing anyone in the window, I think we're on the edge of FFP regulations as it is - so it would be difficult for us to really push anything forward without selling.

We need cover regardless. Not necessarily an out and out 9 either. I'd prefer someone with pace and flexibility to play 9/10 or wide. That's the way the game is going.

Tosun and DCL is not enough depth for maximising what you get out of a season.

Spot on. We just need 'a forward'. We play 4-3-3 or a variation of it - that front three is made up of forwards.

Issue is Tosun cannot play upfront in the EPL on his own, Simms never gets minutes, Kean is loaned out. Richy isn't an out and out forward.

Agree we have no option to take the pressure off Dom and Richy or come to off the bench, Tosun doesn't count as he does not have the mobility.

We loaned out two forwards though we are light wasn't expecting everything done in one summer but you need a minimum to compete.

I mean this is why we shouldn't have left it in the summer (well, October).

But, also, the deals can be done if you're smart about these things. We aren't. And it's frustrating.

There's probably only two strikers in the premier league bought in January that have panned out. Suarez and Aubameyang.

It's a dodgy time.

*Will gladly be corrected

We don't need a striker, we need an all-round forward - there's a difference. My point is that was the case in October and it's the case now. Difference is we're somehow still in a very, very good position to be able to push on for EL or top four. But we need a player or two.

Van Dijk, Fernandes - two very recent examples of players bought in January who massively improved a PL side. Haaland last Jan for Dortmund.

I'm not saying we should go out and spend £40/50m this window. If we could, it would be lovely. But there are deals to be done and value to be found. If we have a plan for the summer (for example, Bailey) then why not move for it now? Push the boat out because that extra gamble could well get us CL football. And if not, well we have a load of tosh on a combined 300k a week leaving in June, and the likelihood is we'd have to seel Richarlison regardless if we didn't make Europe. Balance it out.
