Everton January transfer window 2021

He should have been named Player of the Year when Guardiola won his second title, and he played centrally because of de Bruyne's injury.

No idea why he's been on the fringes since then.

1) he seems to have been rocked by the racism ban, I have zero doubt there isn't a racist bone in his body, but none the less it was a stupid thing to do and must have caused tension in the camp, especially given Sterling was rolled out as a patsy to defend him.

2) He seems to sit in KDB shadow when they both play, De Bruyne is in his space on the right of MF alot and it feels like he goes into his shell a bit. I thought at home to Arsenal a few weeks ago he was back to his best, no coincidence there was no KDB

Not sure some have grasped this yet.
There'll be no more incomings til some of the deadwood have gone.

Gylfi was lined up to go.
Bolasie fell through at Boro.
Tosun was mooted back to Turkey.
Even Davies to Southampton.
Lossl still here.
And a few loans out.

I have no doubt there are players targeted and ready to get deals done.
This must be very frustrating to Carlo having to work with players he doesnt want.
Fact is we have a very bloated squad with a high wage bill .
So until this happens say goodbye to any signings in January.

If they could afford to get a player in January then they should have got him in the last week of October, Matty

The price would probably have been less, unless Carlo wants Josh King (which I don’t think he would do)
What happens if Dom or James get injured we are very short in forward positions...

I mean me and a fair few others were banging that drum weeks ago?

We’re gonna need to buy in January. My point was, if the money is there in Jan it could have been there in the last week of October. No players’ value is going to drop significantly in January unless they are players in the last six months of their contract.

Not strictly true...Puigs value will have dropped as will specific players who teams expect / hope to get a big fee for but dont have buyers now like Camavinga.

I really dont think we are able to sign players in Jan and need to wait till the summer when another boatload of contracts expire (unless they go in Jan).

Weve got too many numbers in the squad...too many donkeys earning big money.

My guess is that 2022 summer is when we will be in a position to really push the boat out as most of our dross are out of contract

Unless the players they wanted weren’t available and felt paying 15mil for josh king was a waste of money, which I wouid agree with.

And at the start of every season, some players see it as a new start, Maybe under a new manager.
And the players with a year left on their deals, again maybe clubs were hoping they could extend deals?

Now some players won’t be playing and looking for moves and some will have less than 6 months left on deals and clubs won’t want to lose them for nothing.

A lot can change in a few months

We won’t be in for either Puig or Camavinga, Zat, so it’s probably a moot point.

regardless, we need a forward, not another midfielder, as the priority.

It would take an absolute miracle for us to get through the season relying on Rich, DCL and James to stay fit.

Those players are very unlikely to suddenly become available for a lower cost in the middle of the season - that’s my point.

I agree with the point on King (again, it’s what I said - they clearly didn’t think it was worth paying that much for him, since he is out of contract at the end of the season anyway).

The point people make with King is he’s kind of the profile of player we should be after - quick, versatile, knows where the net is.

I have no issue with us not getting King in. It’s the fact we didn’t get anyone in despite letting two go (again, fine) and decided to try and bundle our way through the season. A season which, as I keep saying, has a lot more risk than most before it.

It’s negligent and within one game was proved to be just that.

Didn’t Ross Barkley’s price drop 20mil from the August to January?

I’m sure we will get a couple of players in, will they be of the right quality, who knows?

because he only had a few months to run on his contact.

Apart from King (at a push), there’s not many players who are the quality we need whose contracts are going to be running down.

an option may come up, for a loan etc, especially with the Euros coming up. But, it could well be already too late and Brands doesn’t like doing deals in January. But it was clear we needed someone, so why not go and do it in October?
