there’s not really many high quality players that are running their deals down that are likely to be any more available to us right now than they were in September/October

Florin Thauvin, Memphis depay, both maybe unlikely to come to us, but 2 examples of players out of contract in 5 months come January, I’m sure there’s a few more out there

I wasn't on the Zaha bandwagon in the summer, didn't think we needed him. But completely convinced this is the right move now.

James not defending on the wing doesn't work, he needs to be central so he can be covered defensively. Zaha and Richarlison give great balance both sides of the park, both track back and both are direct runners.

And if Richarlison does leave next summer, then at least we have a similar player ready to go.

If we got Isco on loan and had a fit Gbamin as well, then we have good depth in the CM positions.

He does mention out of contract players a couple times. But those players I think would be reluctant to come when a huge payday is right around the corner for them.

Okay, just the point is of the profile we should really be after (23-26 age etc) - quick, powerful enough play across the line (appreciate both those players you name are just that, they’re just not realistic as you say).

Just an example but I can’t see there being many players within the bracket that we need who are going to be in that situation.

King is the obvious one, but I think we both agree that while he would be a reasonable option, he’s probably not the player to push us on to a top four challenge.

We won’t be in for either Puig or Camavinga, Zat, so it’s probably a moot point.

regardless, we need a forward, not another midfielder, as the priority.

It would take an absolute miracle for us to get through the season relying on Rich, DCL and James to stay fit.

Its not a moot point, its two well known examples of players whose values are decreasing -- whose contracts arent up. There will be numerous players in the same situation...im really not sure how you came to your point that no ones values drop unless theyre out of contract soon.

Also, not sure why we wouldnt be in for either unless were going to totally change tact and aim for 29+ year olds and not invest in younger high potential players.

Additionally, im amazed youre jumping on the bandwagon to add more players in January.
