Controversial but the last time our defence looked half solid at times was with a Mr Zouma in the back line.

Not his biggest fan but think he's better than both Holgate & Mina.

Don’t think it is controversial, he’s currently first choice for a Chelsea team keeping clean sheets. He needs a decent partner though (which he now has with Silva) because he’s too erratic if he’s put with another partner who is erratic. Mina and Keane aren’t a solid base though, theyre very slow and reactive. I’d rather see Godfrey and Holgate get a run together but will Carlo trust the two younger players and leave 60 million pounds worth of international centrebacks on the bench.

I think Keane has been very good recently. He has the odd poor game, but for the most part he is very solid. He probably needs a run of games next to Holgate who is a nice foil for him.

I just can’t get on board with Michael Keane. At his best for us he looks just ok for me yet we seemed to have accepted that. Jags and Lescott at their peak were miles above him though, absolute miles. Even Stones when he was focussed was a far better player. I feel like we’re rewarding him for being better than Ashley Williams and doing basic things like heading balls and finding simple passes. The reality is though that we are sat so deep because he has no pace, if he’s pressured at all he’ll usually give up possession or lump it long, and whenever he’s in the team regardless of partner we seem to concede a lot. He’s just not for me, but I know that lots on here rate him and Ancelotti obviously does too. In another era though I don’t think he would even have an international cap, he’s been lucky to come along now rather than when England had Ferdinand Terry Campbell King Woodgate Carragher etc.

All fair. I'll be honest, I think he is as good as any England CB. I see the way people go on about that Maguire and I don't see him as much better than Keane.

Jagielka and Lescott were much better, but they played in a system that suited them and were probably the 2nd best pairing in the league behind Ferdinand and Vidic. I don't think Keane is top 4/5 in the league, but to me he is pretty solid, especially when he's given a reliable partner and can sit a bit deeper.

On the final point maybe, but I also think being a CB is now a lot harder than any position. I saw a German coach say they don't have many CB's now because of all the demands on them. Woodgate, Terry, Carragher etc would not fair well in the modern game, where teams push up the pitch and CB's have to carry the ball more. If Keane had played 15 years ago, under Moyes and had a reguar partner in Jagielka/Lescott I think he would look much better as well.

Link with this Brazilian defender from Torino today. Isn't this just a rehash of an old story

Would think if we we're in for another centre - half it would be someone more experienced, this lad hasn't played that much with only 36 league games to his name for Torino since he joined them in the 2018/19 season.

Any chance of a bid for that Szoboszlai (Hungarian lad) - looks a cracking player.
He looks decent. Not that fast in terms of what we really need but his technicality is top draw. Similar to Kai Havert but looks better imo. Plus he is only 19. There will be many clubs after him.

I think we've been through a hell of a lot of managers and spent a hell of a lot of money on center back and one thing strikes me, its always Keane and one other - says a lot.

Thought Holgate was really bad last week, not like him and probably the wrong decision to play him straight of the bat when fit.
