Everton January transfer window 2021

Bit harsh that, it was his first game back. I think it was a mistake from Carlo to play him so soon.

Problem is mate gone are the days you could lump someone in the ressies for a few games to get up to speed.

Only way a player gets match fitness nowadays is by getting minutes on the pitch.

I still think Godfrey deserves a chance at CB - we as a club can not be spending £25 million on a 3rd/4th choice CB when we cant even qualify for europe these days.

I think Godfrey will get his chance. My money is on Godfrey and Holgate being first choice CB’s by the end of the season.

I think Mina isn’t good enough and Keane makes me nervous.

Maybe if we had a keeper that commands his box and didn’t make daft errors the defence would be more confident?

I dont rate Olsen but he deserves a chance over Pickford.

I wish I could agree. I'd say he's done OK against soft opposition. He's a ball watcher. Never attacks it. I'm crap at remembering games, but I think it was Wolves where they pinged a long ball. Keane ran alongside his man while he watch the ball & just gave his man time to take it down on his chest & slot it. He's a soft touch. No aggression whatsoever. No awareness of where his man is or sense to get his body in between man & ball. He's no John Terry that's for sure.
If he was a John Terry he wouldn’t be playing for us.

Weren't there stories that Carlo knocked back milik in the last window? Seems a bit odd we would go after him now after working with him at napoli and not signing him to begin with.

I think we need 3/4 players over the next two windows.

Right back - JJK isn’t the solution to replace an aging Coleman who I fear will pick up niggles more often now despite looking great this year. Suggestion: Max Aarons - still at Norwich so an option.

CM - Gomes just frustrates me every time he plays. We need someone high energy who can free up the rest of the team. Suggestion: Gana Gueye - he knows the club, tries his hardest and we might have some leverage with the Kean situation.

Striker - Tosun again is not the long term backup to DCL. We need someone who can either do the same job as DCL or come on from the bench and do something different. Suggestion: Alexander Isak - highly rated at one point but now at Socieded. I still think there is a player in there and Ancelotti could bring it out of him. Socieded are not the biggest club and may take a lower than expected offer.

Winger: losing richy for several weeks highlighted how poor we are in this area outside our first choice. Ideally we want a tricky winger who could play either side. Suggestion: the previous Leon Bailey links make him an obvious thought but perhaps Brands’ Dutch links might help us attract another young prospect like Stengs.

Interesting choice with Gueye as a replacement for Gomes. I think it makes sense to get a defensively minded, athletic mobile type to replace him. Frees up Allan and and Doucoure to contribute further up the pitch. Allan probably isn't mobile enough to sit and screen the width of the pitch. Hopefully Gblammo is exactly the player we need and we won't need to buy anyone.

I'm not sure of I'd get another centre forward in. I'd be happy enough to have Richarlison and Kean as backups. Would rather go for a pacey wide player in the Bailey or Zaha mould. Goes straight in to the first team and gives us better options tactically.

So generally, the priority for me would be a wide forward and a right back. Not holding my breath for any meaningful ins his window though.

Jan Window opens 2nd January so between now and then we have 9 games plus a League Cup Quarter Final.

If we can pick up, 6/7 wins plus beat United, it puts us in the right direction to have a run on the Top 4 and a cup.

I think adding to this current squad will only benefit but I can't see the finances being so fruitful.

Should we find buyers for Davies, Tosun or Kenny, I think we would hope we would add to those positions - CM, ST and RB.

It really doesn't matter what the fee paid is.

Spending £25m on him doesn't necessarily mean he's better than Holgate just yet.

He will get plenty of game time this season.

He played the first two games he was available for - that had to be at RB because of the injuries we had.

He wasn't fit for Newcastle and didn't play vs Man Utd.

We need to start defending as a unit - that's down to work on the training pitch as much as players on the pitch.

Need to stop this attitude of "he cost £xy, needs to go straight in the side."

That's not the right way to build a squad. Just like we should have gone and spent money on a forward to give us more than two or three options for that front line.

Have to disagree mate - if you aint good enough for europe but are throwing big money on 3rd/4th choice squad players then either the manager has to be playing them or the DOF needs booting for spending big sums on players not required.

But he's played every game he's been available for bar the Utd match.

Holgate was probably our best performer at the back last season, and is clearly Carlo's first pick.

We needed another CB so we had four options (plus Branthwaite). Remember we went the first 7 games being one injury away from Digne having to play CB full-time.

Buying Godfrey also gives us a succession plan. If Mina doesn't up his game then next year he'll probably be sold, as he'll have two years left on his deal.

Having Godfrey with a year under his belt in that situation is a good progression plan.

Look at Leicester with Soyuncu.

The lad hardly played at all in his first full season with them.

He got a year's experience with the team, playing the odd match. Granted he got a bit of an injury but he'd been playing full on in the Bundesliga before his move.

Leicester sold Maguire and the replacement was there and ready made.

Not everything has to be a rush job. Just like shoehorning Godfrey or Holgate into holding midfield isn't necessarily the answer either.

I'd like to see us try a back three with both Godfrey and Holgate in there, but it would require work on the training pitch and for us to stick with it.
