Everton January transfer window 2021

I dunno considering the questions the Echo and Athletic ask the club are normally the same dross everyone else does. Also I’d much rather Google translate an interview with Brands than hide it behind a paywall.

You want him to do interviews, he does them.
I mean he's done one interview - this one - in about six months. Don't think we've heard from him since the summer.

I'm not sure how you can hear the Athletic questions, as there's only one presser this season that they've asked one during the public section of the presser.

Again though, the ideal scenario is through the club.

I never said in the presser (Athletic). How regularly do Leeds and Saints DoF’s do them?

Plus if it’s through the club they’re not going to answer any questions we don’t already know the answer to.

For the first time in a long, long time, I don't think we need to sign a centre back any time soon.

Michael Keane is vastly improved, Mina is generally a lot better than 12/18 months ago, and Holgate and Godfrey have already proven that they are capable and full of promise for the future.

Branthwaite didn't look out of place when he played and he's got a chance to improve while at Blackburn.

We're well and truly covered at left back with Digne and Nkounkou, we just need a long-term right back option. I'm sure Carlo knows this and will plug that particular gap in the summer.

Even Pickford is looking decent, at least he hasn't messed up in a good while. It's only going to help him playing behind a settled defence.

We're safe in central midfield with Gomes looking fine off the bench and Doucouré and Allan looking great when starting. I can't see Davies being sold so I don't think Carlo will add another CM in the summer. Can't see any takers for Sigurdsson so he's the 5th option at CM.

Iwobi is getting better, and DCL and James are both great. Richarlison needs to improve and I'm sure he will. At least if he's sold we'll get good money to replace him with two players - ideally a wide left player and a striker. I think we'd get 40-60m for Richarlison.

Prioritise signing a starting right back and a young but promising striker / experienced, proven striker happy to rotate, then try to find a wide player who can play on either wing.

Sell/release Delph, Lössl, Sigurdsson, Tosun, Kenny, Bernard, Kean (estimating around 50-60m for the lot). Desperately try to offload Baningame who, by some miracle, has until 2022 on his contract.

Bolasie, Besic, Pennington, Walcott all out of contract and are leaving anyway.

That's 12 players out who offer us absolutely nothing at all.

Bring in 2 new players, 3 if we include Olsen, and, providing Gbamin returns one day, that gives us a squad of about 25 players for hopefully a European campaign next year.

Three things I think will be interesting now/summer:

A: Will we see a 'defined' style of play? Ancelotti seems to enjoy tinkering a little to get 3pts which is great but it will be interesting to see if he moulds us into having a main playing style which we use in most games.

B: What kind of right back and central midfielder we sign -- this will change the dynamic of the team

C: The age profile of the players signed.

*also in bold, theres no way we would sell Richarlison for £40-60mil. He's not having the best season but i think hes probably around 1 in 2 or 3 for assists/goals? Also his workrate is intense to watch.

I do think we may see the side evolve to make him more of a threat.

Brands interview in Dutch media, says he’s a big fan of Gravenberch (teenage midfielder) at Ajax but feels that he might be after a move straight to one of the top sides in Europe

It's such a failing of the club and Brands. He never does any interviews in the English press, not one. And the rare times he does interviews, it's to Dutch outlets.

Our fanbase are crying out for clarity. It's not really on.

What practical implications are we going to have for the academy? Are we looking for more local lads? I'm not sure how they want it shifted to be honest.

Gravenberch is the next Ajax star. He’d cost £50m I guess, but he’s a baller and a proper unit.

Gravenberch: I mentioned yesterday that we need a 6 enabling Doucoure and Allan to play as box to box players. Either a world class playmaker, more of an all rounder with good passing range (an anchor) or a young player we can coach into playing the role in the premier league.

The dutch are straight talkers and Gravenberch has talked up a move in the past to Barca which Brands seems to be alluding to.

I think theres no harm positioning ourselves to be a club he (and others) u21 join before taking the leap to Barca/Madrid or whoever else. By that time we may be in the champions league consistently and/or we would make money on the fee if the players do have world class potential.

Weve got Virginia (GK), Branthwaite (CB), Nkounkou (LB) and Kean (CF) as well as Jagne (CM) who have been brought into the club u21.

Were seeing under a top manager that (on the most part) Brands' transfer business isnt the failure its been made out to be overall...there have been some mistakes but we cant be sure how much Moshiri or Silva impacted certain deals. Under Ancelotti it seems to be looking up.

However, other than our signing of Nathangelo Markelo (under koeman i think) weve not brought in any Dutch players. Brands is supposed to have a lot of pull in Holland and should have a very good network of contacts there.

It seems strange to me that weve not signed any Dutch youth players, nor any south american u21s when he was touted as having an enormous amount of contacts.

So far, it seems like Jagne, Nkounkou and Branthwaite are the relative unknowns hes brought in -- its disappointing that there havent been more. Especially when we seem to need forwards and midfielders to bring into the first team.

Just to add onto my last post...on the 6.

1: If we stick with our defensive setup then we'll need a 6 to link defence and midfield -- our attackers become isolated when Doucoure/Allan drop back looking for the ball.

2: If we add an attacking right back we'll still need a 6 to move the ball left to right and up/down. Doucoure/Allan arent that type of player.

3: If we setup with a 433, a diamond or even a relatively flat 4 in midfield then we'd see James' role defined as right sided, drifting centrally (flat 4 or 433) and at the tip of the diamond.

If we sign an attacking midfielder then that would relegate one of Allan/Doucoure to be more defensive and they may also get in the way of James when he comes infield -- same with Iwobi.

4: We have no one in the centre of the pitch to combine with the left or the right. Those balls James plays to unleash Digne or Richarlison are fantastic...to really turn the screw on teams and increase posession we should have a player in the middle who can easily link not only defence and midfield but Digne/Richarlison on the left and James/Iwobi on the right.

Id have gone for Tonali the last 2 January's and summers as he has the energy, drive, tenacity, tackling ability and passing range to be able to play in the premier league.

My picks:

We were linked with Boubacar Kamara (Marseille) in the summer who was playing as a Centre Back last year. Theyve now moved him to defensive and centre midfield and he looks like he is a very good tenacious all rounder with solid passing range -- Ancelotti was saying he likes players who can play different positions...he can play LB / CB / DM / CM positions.

Bruno Guimaraes (Lyon) Hes brilliant...would be an instant fan favourite. The one player i wish we would sign, heres Juninho Pernambucano's views on him within the article and a brief report;

Not sure what you’re thinking. Instead of signing a top attacking midfielder, you want us to sign a defensive midfielder and push our 2 defensive midfielder higher up the pitch, one of them average in passing and the other one without pace. Merry go round fantasy football just to satisfy your fantasy.

We dont have 2 defensive midfielders...

You mean Allan / Doucoure who are both better at playing as 8's ? If you did move Allan / Doucoure into a defensive midfield position then neither of them have the passing ability to spread the play...makes no sense to me.

Why sign an attacking centre midfielder when they occupy the same space James/Iwobi take when they come inside?

Lyon signed him a year ago Zat and his name rings out louder than us.

Seems like made up rubbish to me.

Italian media is a very bad source, no Fab no party.

Having brought in Mandzukic and Tomori, they might be trying to streamline their financial aspects but with 14 apps and only 4 starts (5 goals/4 assists) this season, he might be surplus to requirements.

However we aren't spending 20 odd million this January but loan maybe
