Everton January transfer window 2021

Agree, he’s got ability but not suited to the PL, probably do well in China or somewhere like that.

Tosun, Besic, Kenny, Bolasie and him all going on this window would be fantastic if can be achieved.

Get rid of Delph too and I’d consider it a minor modern day miracle.

Getting rid of Bolasie would be a greater achievement. Essentially stopped playing by choice for a good while now.

So you'd prefer to pay a sizable loan fee + his sizeable wages rather than just another player's sizeable wages?
If we gave Costa an 18 month contract then we could get back all of his wages by selling him on the cheap in the summer if it wasn't working out.
No. I'd prefer to weigh up the financial implications of BOTH options, and then make an informed decision.

At the moment I'm PRESUMING that Costa would be asking for at least £100k a week (and him being a free transfer I'd not be surprised at all if he was asking substantially more) and something like a two-year deal as a minimum. I'm also PRESUMING that we could agree a deal for Dzeko that saw us pay a percentage of his existing wages, but would amount in cash terms to maybe £50k per week at most. And if we're paying £50k a week of his wages, we're probably not paying a loan fee as well.

Your use of the word "significant" suggests that you are PRESUMING Dzeko would cost a lot more than Costa per week... but you do have a bucket for a head, so I can see why you might think that.

Finally, if Costa does not perform for us then who is going to take him in the summer when we have signed him (in this admittedly hypothetical scenario) on a £100K / £120K / £150k per week deal? We'd end up paying his wages but loaning him out to some Turkish mob who would cover 5% of his weekly pay.

Nope I was presuming that Dzeko's wages and loan fee would come to about the same as Costa's wages over the six month period.

Perhaps so, but I highly doubt it for the reasons I have already explained.

However after that six months we are not tied in to Dzeko because it's a loan. Then it's the summer and we go and find a better long-term fit.

If we sign Costa on a free, we're stuck with him for the duration of his contract.

Has this thread turned into fantasising about players we would like at Everton? If so, De Bruyne looks a decent prospect, imagine him in a midfield with Rodriguez, Allan and Doucoure!
lol lol lol

If Tosun. Bernard and Kenny all go, with Simms and Branthwaite already gone, we would be extremely light on squad options. I'm absolutely fine with them all going, but we'd need at least one coming in to counter it. Bernard isn't great but he's made literally every single matchday squad this season, we just can't afford to let players like that go without replacing them.

Agreed we would be light but between them they have played 16 apps all comps mostly off the bench.

They aren't a miss. If we have injuries, then yes we need to fill them but we can't do that if they are here.

It's a Catch 22

The departures from Everton will be numerous next May/June, not before. As Carlo said nobody is leaving and the squad is big enough for his purposes for the forseeable future.
