Everton January transfer window 2021

Didnt Lukaku cancel contract negotiations because we didnt sign Manolo Gabbiadini?

Not sure if it was Gabbiadini.

Lukaku was looking for a way out really, and he got his mind swayed at the last minute. It wasn't negotiations, the contract was there and ready to sign, media at Finch Farm, the lot.

But he was right in what he'd said that January. The club needed to push on. They didn't.

It's the DoF's job to create wiggle room in the finances.

If our situation is so dire, then we should be accepting an actual transfer fee for Kenny rather than just letting Celtic cover his wages for 6 months.
That depends on what the offer was! If there was even an offer. He will still be sold in the summer, and playing for Celtic will only enhance that.

Also, the current situation is exceptional. A global pandemic is hammering football finances everywhere, and we are no no doubt caught up in it. I bet this firesale is as much about limiting the losses.

What honestly gives you confidence about top 6 mate after January’s performances? Serious question!

Man U will claim a place, they have quality in Fernandes, Rashford etc, Chelsea will surely improve under Tuchel and have the squad to do so, Spurs fully loaded have better options than us and Leicester despite losing yesterday looked a significantly better side than us last week and going forward will win more than they lose.
If we genuinely want to progress then we need to be looking at the level of signing of a Bruno Fernandes etc. A couple of last minute loans aren’t going to bridge the gap. Whether that sort of outlay is possible in the summer remains to be seen.

Burnley did offer - we couldn't agree a fee.

Yeah we don't know what the offer was. But it's probably reasonable to expect that Kenny is on about 30k a week, maybe less.

For arguments' sake, let's call it 25 weeks from now until the end of June, as I cba working it out.

That's, give or take, 750k in wages.

I am sure Burnley's offer will have been more than 750k.

You're absolutely right on the pandemic. Know what will help finances while you can't get fans in? FInishing in Europe, higher up the table, going for trophies.

They aren't mutually exclusive, and I'm not expecting a £40m signing.

You can loan players, and you can even loan players that other clubs still want to keep (see PSG with Kean). It's not impossible, it's what the DoF and recruitment team get paid to do.

You would have to say that after January’s performances and results, mid table is actually far more likely than top 6.

I'm not sure I agree with that. In January we have played 5, won 3 drawn 1 lost 1.

In terms of the league currently, I can see a case that United, City & Liverpool are ahead of us. I think we are then similar to Leicester in terms of position, maybe Aston Villa. You then have the likes of Spurs, Chelsea and to a degree West Ham pressing, but probably a little behind us currently. Can I see all of those 5 teams all finishing above us? Not for me.

Don't fall for it fellas. You know how today ends and it ends in tears. We'll have a weaker and smaller squad than the start of the season.

The positive is that summer will give us more spcae for Ancelotti's players.

If there's not an obligation to buy, the hope might be with some exposure, his value may grow in Scotland. I think it's a big risk though, as in honesty values may plummet further by the summer.

So sell at any price?
