Which makes it even more imperative to get someone in for this very reason. It's not just about injuries, it's about form. With no options we are basically saying it doesn't matter if your playing crap, your all we've got so you'll continue to be picked.

Its a very very dangerous game to play not having competition for places.
It's simply evidence that our true ambition this season is upper mid-table. Carlo's ego tells him he can get into the Europa - and maybe he can - but I reckon he's overestimating his magnificoness or his Andre Gomes-inspired side and will see his reputation slide with a 9th placed finish behind David Moyes's knife and a resurgent Mikel Arteta.

Don't get me wrong, 9th is progress from 12th last term. But all this auld talk of Champions League qualification etc is delusional with the current squad. Waiting around for the summer is not really a luxury we can afford. The likes of James won't be hanging around much longer and will likely have other options come then. We'll still have Richarlison though. :dodgy:

@ForeverBlue92 on form with his populism as per.
He is the scourge of the lurkers.

lol lol

Stephen warnock just said Costa would be an excellent signing for us, I totally agree, wage wise doesn’t bother me it’s not from my pocket. Anything is better than this constant 1 up top approach especially against weaker teams.

It also makes Ancelotti's comments after the Newcastle game hollow until the end of the season because there is very little option to change it up for underperforming players.

Also limits the in game changes, we'll be stuck to one way of playing. If it's worked out it'll be backs to the wall defending, not good if you have an error prone goalkeeper given chance after chance.

Exactly and thats what happened Saturday. There wasn't a person who didn't say before the match "well if the first 11 doesn't work we are goosed as there's no one to change it up".
