Everton January transfer window 2021

Good grief there are some proper bubblehead comments flying around in here regarding Josh King.

He can play in any of the front three positions, he's tall, quick and has a track record of scoring 48 in 161 Prem appearances.

Is he better than Tosun? Yes. Clearly.

Is he worth what he is CURRENTLY being paid per week by Bournemouth? Yes. And his current wage wouldn't pose a financial issue for us.

Is he worth the £120k per week his agent is after? Obviously not, and we can't afford that much anyway.

I don't want him on a brand new contract, where we pay him £6m a year (which is what £120k p/w roughly amounts to). I would be perfectly happy with him on LOAN however, with us paying either a couple million fee for the loan OR his wages at his CURRENT rate.

If I can work this scenario through in my head, I'm sure Brands and Ancelotti can. I suspect they are waiting for King's agent to realise that no-one is interested in offering his client a £100k+ p/w contract. At that point, the agent will be telling the player that he'll get significant playing time with us due to our squad situation and therefore could either earn a new deal with us in the summer or at least attract other interest by putting on a show against prem opposition.

Bournemouth want some sort of financial return on the player. The player's agent wants to secure a move, either now or in the summer, for an improved weekly wage. We want pacy backup in the front 3. A loan suits all three parties at this point.

Loan I’ll accept and get behind it but it really won’t be a loan deal.

When you look at the bench against Newcastle and visualise how’s it going to look against Leeds and there on afterwards I think it’s quite telling why people may over react a bit. Personally thought we needed one or two alternatives in anyway but to do nothing and just send others out on loan which leaves us even short depth wise is very short sighted.

Well... no though? Because that means we've left a critical bit of business and reduced to a game of bluff in the last few hours.

If he doesn't compromise we have no forward signing. Which seems a stupid way of doing business to me.

If we move for King, I don't think it's a last minute, panic. I think we'd have always of intended to move today.

For me, the January window should be to exploit panic (flog players, example - teams fearing relegation), or circumstance (example - contractually). It should also be used to move quickly for players before they can be pimped by their agent (Example, Fellaini).

It shouldn't be used to sign stop gaps like Cenk Tosun.

Yeah, we need some cover upfront. We've needed that since the start of the season - Cenk Tosun made no odds.

There's not many who are going to be lining up who would improve us without paying crazy money.

If we look to exploit a circumstance for that cover, then that's alright with me.

The devil would be in the detail.

I love stats but at the same time we now find ourselves 8th when a few weeks back we could of gone top of the table. A large part of why we have fell off is a lack of any depth in the squad. Yes we aren't losing too much if we get rid of the players listed but at the same time we are literally an injury or two away from having to shuffle our team around again.

They ain’t played because they’re not good enough. Getting them out should free up room in the squad + wages for players who can actually make an impact off the bench/with occasional start

Huge fan of Brands but not signing a backup forward this window’s pretty neglectful

A player I always liked King, would have shouted for him on here when he was younger, can play a number of positions and has a good well rounded game, power, size, athletism, pace, physicality and can slot and assist, be a good covering utility player and good enough to start, if needs be at forward or inside forward.
