Everton January transfer window 2021

And what if he gets injured on Wednesday and he’s out for 6 weeks, we’re starting an out of form Richy up front and Gordon on the left?

Considering there’s a big chance to get Europe this year, leaving our chances down to hope and luck would be poor.

What if we sign someone today and they both play at the weekend and both break their leg?

I`m still clinging to my prediction of Foo Kin No Won signing today.... Looking at the league as it is today you have to say the top 4 is Citeh, Liverpool, Man Ure and Leicester. the gap to West Ham is 4 points and 6 down to us in 8th. We do have 2 games in hand against Villa and Man City but even the most optimistic wouldn`t see us getting 6 points from them two games. Arsenal are enjoying a prolonged unbeaten run whilst Chelsea will have the new manager bounce. Villa have been consistent all season and are playing much better football than us and scoring goals, I think we have already blown it. I think we should have acted sooner in the window! Then perhaps the Newcastle result doesnt happen.....

I dont, I just know we aint payin Yannick Bolaise 70k a week to make tea at FF anymore and that's good enough for me.
I cant see Gibson being stupid enough to give that headless chicken anymore than 20k per week so we are still paying him 50 k per week for the pleasure of seeing him stink out the Riverside.
Ditto Tosun at Besiktas . JJK at Celtic , you get the picture.

Without any incomings, and assuming Tosun and Bernard go (and disregarding Gbamin and Besic), we're two injuries away from not being able to field a full bench without using our youth team.

And that's with Joao Virginia on the bench.

Total players: 24

We have 22 players, if you disregard Gmblammo and Besic.

Cenk Tosun doesn't count/offered no difference to this team anyway so I don't subscribe to the view we need to replace him.

It's not about replacing what he is; it's about replacing what he should be - the viable back up to DCL/an option along the front lines.

It's the only reason I'd be begrudgingly OK to see Josh King in. Although how there's no viable alternative to Josh King in world football after an entire transfer window to look is beyond me.

And who is that?

And for what fee do you pay for someone to play second fiddle to DCL?

And that's what I think is the pragmatic view.

Basically, no more Cenk Tosun's.

You've included Bernard; assume he's gone.

So 11 players, 9 subs needed, 20 in total - we have 21.

Small and whatever that Felli-afro-lookalike kid will be getting minutes as it stands.

I wouldn't begrudge him of that.

I think he loses power with timing, knowing he can stay there and rot and hope for an option in the summer or move now.

For all we know it could have been our/the players intention to leave it until the last second to force Bournemouth's hand.

No clue Phil.

I thought first week of January we'd see a Isco or Khedria come in but Brands doesn't do January, and it's become apparent the focus - possibly rightly so, is to continue to trim the fat and create capacity for the summer. If we have another summer of improvement like last then we'll go to another level.

I don't think at this stage any player coming in gets us 4th - whether they go some way to help us get us 6th is another question...

I feel now like I did when we signed Tosun and Walcott when we signed them in January. What's the point?

If King is available for buttons and willing to come in to compete, then sound.

If not, then I won't cry. We've gone all season with just DCL - Cenk Tosun doesn't count/offered no difference to this team anyway so I don't subscribe to the view we need to replace him.
Obviously there has to be a compromise wage's wise , but moreso Bournemouth putting a silly figure on a player they loose in 4 months.
It was always going to end this way ,fair play to Carlo & Brands not jumping straight in and getting a good deal.
Thats if it happens btw.

For what it's worth I would concentrate on offloading some of the dead wood within this window, concentrate on new signings in the summer.

We do not need to make anymore panic signings on top wages that do not work out.

Problem is mate two of those players who have been offloaded haven’t really been offloaded they’ll be back in July to put a block to us being able to reinforce because we can’t move them on. Nobody will be foolish enough to cough up actual cash for Tosun and Kenny with 12 months left on their deals.

I suppose now we just have to accept that from now on until the end of the season we will have to make do with defensive minded players only and GKs to get us through and pray for no injuries.

The bit I've bold there - I think the position was dictated to Brands/Ancelotti though so I have sympathy.
You're probably right and in the cold light of day, without an accountant's objective eyes, the rota were full of overpaid dross and they've slimmed the books.

You'd even say that Kean has had opportunities at PSG to develop as a player, while we've saved money; Tosun and Kenny going strengths us financially too.

Long term, like you mention, it probably (errr hopefully) sets up for the summer window. But football isn't a science... it isn't just about numbers and isn't linear.

The squad is heavily weighted in terms of defensive minded players or of limited ability, and then you look at the bench as you only mentioned on Saturday.

We've perhaps made the right choices based on our situation, their remit and long term plans, but as a fan I can't help be disgruntled about our options - or lack of.

Next season will now be a big acid test as if we haven't made sizeable improvements in our front line, we'll have had the same recurring problem for a few seasons.

I think you pay whatever for someone who's decent who can play across the front line. A Richarlison type, but quick.

Josh King "fits the bill" in many respects, but his age, wages, the fact he's a contract mercenary... all black marks against him. Had to be someone more worthy of a punt than him in world football.
