Everton January transfer window 2021

You've included Bernard; assume he's gone.

So 11 players, 9 subs needed, 20 in total - we have 21.

Small and whatever that Felli-afro-lookalike kid will be getting minutes as it stands.
Seems like a good thing then really.

Gordon also should get more minutes.

People have been saying that we need more yoots.

A clear pathway to the first team will make us more attractive.

So instead of Theo Walcott blocking Lookman, Lookman plays.

Good - they need minutes to learn.

Indeed, but while they do we're pissing away a golden chance at European football in a topsy turvy league season, because we have no squad depth.

That's my frustration - we've spent in January before when the season had been over in October because of a terrible start, but we're not spending now when we have a great chance of kicking on.

When the crowd is back next season, we're knackered - the mental midget Michael Keane will be back to his old self.

Just frustrates me.

You're probably right and in the cold light of day, without an accountant's objective eyes, the rota were full of overpaid dross and they've slimmed the books.

You'd even say that Kean has had opportunities at PSG to develop as a player, while we've saved money; Tosun and Kenny going strengths us financially too.

Long term, like you mention, it probably (errr hopefully) sets up for the summer window. But football isn't a science... it isn't just about numbers and isn't linear.

The squad is heavily weighted in terms of defensive minded players or of limited ability, and then you look at the bench as you only mentioned on Saturday.

We've perhaps made the right choices based on our situation, their remit and long term plans, but as a fan I can't help be disgruntled about our options - or lack of.

It's difficult.

I just look at the squad before Brands, and now.

He always said it would take time.

A few years on, he's had more hits than misses and the result is we've got a better, and very importantly, leaner squad. He's done that with arms behind his back with the pile of cack he had to clear out.

Compare the squad before Brands and now, and pop Carlo Ancelotti into the equation and I think it's very good progress.

I'm hoping this summer will see us really kick on.

He should be out on loan.

And for what fee do you pay for someone to play second fiddle to DCL?
I don't disagree with your point and going off topic slightly but ideally they'd be a bit more than a back up. DCL has done really well for us but he's not Kane, Aguero etc. He's on his second lengthy PL goal drought in the last 6 months, it would be nice to have someone who could potentially offer a little bit of competition to him.

It's not about replacing what he is; it's about replacing what he should be - the viable back up to DCL/an option along the front lines.

It's the only reason I'd be begrudgingly OK to see Josh King in. Although how there's no viable alternative to Josh King in world football after an entire transfer window to look is beyond me.
I’m afraid that’s the nature of doing deals in January. It’s C a much better window to move players on as teams are desperate, like us.
I can see why king as a back up option works. I also think he will get plenty of game time. I’m not sure he’s good enough, but I can’t see any alternatives right now.

We're clearing the decks, whoever we want is a Summer target and I'd rather us not panic buy today just to appease the cryarsing.
Thats all well and good but the danger is we fall away in the second half of the season and finish mid table then no one decent wants to come unless we throw silly money at them and we potentially lose a few of our better players and thus the cycle of gash continues.

this season may of been the best chance we’ll have in a long time to break into the top 6

I think you pay whatever for someone who's decent who can play across the front line. A Richarlison type, but quick.

That's £40m-£60m then.

Got to get that type of investment right.

How many have spent that this window?

Josh King "fits the bill" in many respects, but his age, wages, the fact he's a contract mercenary... all black marks against him. Had to be someone more worthy of a punt than him in world football.

Can't think of many myself, but then I'm not a director of football.

Also have to look at the other argument - knows the league/has a decent record scoring in the prem for a Bournemouth side/cheap.

I'd just edited my post saying pretty much the same thing.

An improved front-line, with quality and depth in terms of flexibility, is a must and a failure for this to materialise will be pretty damming at an executive level.

While the names have changed, we've been heavily reliant on a small number of forwards for a few years now, and it's regularly shackled how we we perform.

Everything else I totally agree with as someone only posted before a chart with over one-hundred departures, and hardly any of those have been above average.

It's just a bit frustrating as I'm not one of those who are advocating massive changes - never have; a few quality additions in key areas would make a big difference.

You can't, but a guy who is employed as a Director of Football should have better options than a 29-year-old from the Championship without a goal in a dozen games on £75k+ a week.

If it's a loan, I retract my comments - I wouldn't mind a loan. If it's a signing, I'm disappointed - I accept the necessity but the fact it's come down to "Josh King or no one" means, in my eyes, Brands hasn't done his job right.

Still might.
