Hey everybody my name is Jorge Rodrigues. I have been an everton supporter for the past yr or so (new to watching BPL) and love this football club so much. I have started up a supporters group focusing on the LGBT community (or people who support LGBT rights) for everton supporters. I am doing that because I feel we can be ahead of the curve and get a huge group of people to support these supporters but also the causes they bring with it. The group's league is Rainbow Toffees- The Everton LGBT Supporters Group. I am trying to get a huge amount of support because I know globally there is a ton of people who are gay or lesbian (or who support their rights) that are evertonians. So I thought this would be a good way of bringing it to ppls attention. I am hoping to get enough support to make it the official support group from the everton football club. Thanks again guys.

I am trying achieve is to bring about lgbt members from across the world that support the everton football club. I want this achieved because I want the Everton Football Club to be the club that is ahead of the curb in terms of combating homophobia and lgbt rights. That is why I wanted this group to come along that way we can cheer on our toffees but also to address how we can all help in combating homophobia and set an example on how to do it right. I felt this kind of group would be a good first step. I hope this answered ur ?

I will admit I am hoping to get the criteria checked off before trying to become an official supporters group... cause I will admit I checked the directory there was no LGBT supporters group and I thought it would be a good idea to start that up you know. I do not want to interfere with what Everton is trying to do but rather help them out and get their fans involved with the LGBT community.

I don't want to underestimate everton's role in the community, but I'm still not convinced we need to politicise our support for a football club, like this.

I mean I'm all for lgbt rights, if not always that enthusiastic about lgbt right groups, and all for cheering everton. But I'm not convinced the two need to be linked. Do we need to segregate ourselves like this? Fair enough, if you think homosexuals need a safe space at matches but it's a bit preachy to try and convert other fans to a way of thinking about homosexuals at a match. That's not what the match is there for.

Can we have a "straight" supporters group?

I don't think the OP wants other fans to think about gay rights issues at a match mate. It sounds more like he wants the club to be seen as being positive about gay rights in general. I can't see the harm tbh.

may I ask if there is a tweet from them stating that cause I def do not want to overstep what the football club is doing if they have but I have checked the supporters directory and there is nothing with lgbt supporters group that is why I want to start one.

Sorry for saying this but if Everton FC are ahead of the curve why the requirement for a group of people with a particular sexual orientation?

If Everton are ahead of the curve there is no need to differentiate one supporter from another based on gender, race or sexual orientation.
