Danish goalie to be the number 1 at Goodison?

There has been no limit to the players being connected to Everton since new owner Farhad Moshiri’s takeover. And with a forward-thinking manager like Ronald Koeman in place, do not expect speculation to slow down any time soon.

Premier League champions Leicester City’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is the latest player being linked with the starting job at Goodison Park. Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg already signed with the club last week, but it was made clear by the new manager that he was there for depth and that he would still be looking for a top goalie.

Joel Robles won the starting job from veteran Tim Howard midway through the previous season, but has not convinced that he is ready to be the team’s number one. Schmeichel’s pedigree cannot be doubted, with fifteen clean sheets in just his second season in the Premier League. Kasper is the son of Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, and has picked up a lot of his fathers traits as well. The elder Schmeichel is still active in the community while Kasper maintains a home in the Greater Manchester area, in the village of Hale.

Schmeichel currently makes £35,000 per week with the Foxes and is due a big raise after his performances last season. The 29-year-old has a £17million release clause which Everton sound quite happy to trigger.

Everton have been linked with other goalies during this period too, with Dutchmen Tim Krul and Jasper Cillessen mentioned. Leicester for their part have already signed Germany’s World Cup winning backup Ron Robert Zieler on a four-year contract earlier this summer.

Who you got, Ronaldo or Bale?

The storyline here pretty much writes itself: Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Gareth Bale. These two teams are more than just their stars, but it’s too juicy of a plot to ignore. The pair of Real Madrid attackers will now be on opposite sides of the pitch, each looking to push their country to the final of the European Championships.

We should note that both teams have some notable players suspended for this game because of yellow card accumulation. Portugal will be without defensive midfielder William Carvalho . But Wales is hit even harder as they will be missing midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has scored a goal this tournament, and full back Ben Davies, Both men had taken part in all five of the Welsh games so far.

Let’s do this!!
