Another day, another name linked to Everton.

This time, Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is the name claimed to be a key transfer target according to Sky Sports.

Reports claim Everton’s transfer committee have pinpointed the 25-year old as a vital part of Ronald Koeman’s new-look midfield and understand Everton have made tentative inquiries to Wijnaldum’s representatives regarding the player’s situation at St James’ Park.

Ronald Koeman turns to Newcastle midfielder via Royal Blue Mersey

The recently relegated team seems eager though to fight for him

It appears many of the deals Everton had ready to go are falling apart and players like Juan Mata and Axel Witsel might not be joining Everton this fall. That said Koeman is looking at targets closer to home to fulfill his ambitions for the upcoming season. The next target is Holland international Georginio Wijnaldum who is looking to escape the recently relegated Newcastle United.

Wijnaldum is a central, attacking midfielder who played for Feyenoord, but left for PSV Eindhoven the year Koeman took over. That doesn’t mean Koeman was not a fan as he targeted the Dutchman last season at Southampton before he chose Newcastle. Now though Newcastle is demanding £27 million for the midfielder as they try to maintain a team to return to the Premier League quickly.

At only 25 years old, he’s a bit younger than others on Koeman’s list so far. He’s shown a solid goal-scoring ability with 11 goals in 38 Premier League appearances to go along with 10 goals in 25 Europa League matches. He’s been pretty versatile as well playing mostly attacking midfielder, but also both wing positions, central midfield and wide midfield positions.

Based on his targets so far Koeman seems determined to improve the midfield and install good players with strong passing ability and movement. Everton last season struggled in the middle of the park, bridging the buildup from the defense and get the ball to Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku in strong attacking positions as well as net a few themselves.

Everton on TV in the United States Against Sunderland, Middlesbrough via Royal Blue Mersey

American Evertonians are in luck twice during the first six weeks of the season.

NBC Sports Soccer announced its Premier League television coverage for the first six matchweeks of the 2016-17 season, and Everton will play in at least two featured matches.

The Toffees' Monday, September 12 match will be shown on NBCSN at 3:00 EST. The match is at Sunderland, the fourth game of Everton's Premier League season.

The following week, Everton will feature on network NBC in the club's first match against Middlesbrough since the club's return to the Premier League. The match is on Saturday, September 17 at 12:30 EST.

In matchweeks 1, 2, 3, and 6, Ronald Koeman's side could feature on American television as well, as NBC is yet to announce the featured match or matches during the 10 a.m. time-slot, during which multiple games occur.

There is a decent chance Everton could be the first NBCSN match of the season, as they open against Tottenham in that featured 10 a.m. spot on opening day, August 13. The most interesting other match occurring during that time is Southampton v. Watford, so it seems reasonable to think Toffees and Spurs could be on the agenda in the US.

All Premier League matches are also available in the United States on Premier League Live Extra, which is available online to cable or satellite TV subscribers.
