Blues next opponents announced

It’ll be a homecoming of sorts for former fan favorite Steven Naismith as Norwich City will come to Goodison Park in the Third Round of the EFL Cup.

Everton were drawn to take on the Canaries late yesterday, having faced the same opponent at the Fourth Round stage of this tournament last season. That game at Carrow Road ended in a 1-1 draw, with the Toffees prevailing 4-3 in a penalty shootout.

Even more recently, this fixture was also replayed on the last day of the Premier League season earlier this year, with Norwich already relegated and Everton prevailing 3-0 with David Unsworth and Joe Royle co-presiding over affairs for the Blues after the sacking of Roberto Martinez.

In the previous round, Everton had beaten Yeovil Town 4-0 while Norwich prevailed 6-1 over Coventry City. Alex Neil is still in charge as the Canaries have made a decent start to the Championship season winning two and drawing two out of four games played so far.

The last time Norwich beat Everton at Goodison was back in September 1993 with the late Howard Kendall in charge. The Blues are unbeaten in Cup competitions against Norwich and will be looking to continue that trend.

The games are to be played during the week of September 19th, with television demands dictating who plays when.
